It is our biggest hope that this letter serves as our mirror; a reflection, in this case, of our deepest appreciation for you and the decision you have made.
First off, choosing adoption is such a selfless act of love for your child…to put his/her needs before your own is admirable and we have nothing but respect for you and your strength during this time and process.
When we first knew we were ready to start a family, we had the initial fun thoughts of ‘who will the baby look most like’ and ‘what personality traits will they pick up from mom and which quirky ones from dad’, etc…you know…what we thought was initially important! The truth is, we’ve learned so much already through this process. From reading different adoptive families experiences online, to hearing about the emotional turmoil a birthmother like you can go through as you work towards making the best decision for your baby...we’ve found that the process is never simple or fast or predictable, let alone thoughtless, rushed, selfish or easy. These experiences led us to the grand realization that we are not only already thankful for the complete selflessness of a human being we have never met…but are overjoyed knowing that the child that we get to eventually welcome into our home will have some of the most important characteristics of all, emotional strength and true humility, passed on to them by you.
Please know that the depth of the privilege you are providing is absolutely not lost on us. Thank you for granting the gift of life and love to a family so eager and ready to start this journey.
We met through mutual friends and started dating in 2010; Drew proposed on the first day of Fall (Cecilia’s favorite season!) in 2012 and we married a year later on a beautiful piece of Cecilia’s parents’ land. Cecilia was well into her career with a strong entrepreneurial spirit early in their relationship, while Drew was just completing his I.T. courses. Fast forward 5 years and Drew is working for a leading software company in the heart of Downtown as well as running his own non-profit while Cecilia has her own successful Skin Care business in a rapidly growing historic neighborhood in the city.
Our 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home is located in a very family friendly cul-de-sac in a quiet, suburban neighborhood. We currently share our space with our 2 dogs, Toby & Noah. We live just up the road from Cecilia’s sister and her family and we get together often at our home for afternoons in our pool or outings to one of the many parks located nearby.
Our Extended Family
While our extended families differ in size, they have one big thing in common…their desire to be close and spend quality time together. Cecilia’s family consists of a multitude of aunts, uncles, grandparents, nieces, nephews and cousins who all live relatively close to one another and who love to get together for all of the holidays and birthdays to celebrate and eat and play games. Drew’s family has more physical distance between them, but also love to get together when they can. One of our favorite things to do is take long weekend trips away. Whether it be 4 or 14 hours, a good road trip is the perfect way to decompress and we try to take as many throughout the year that we can. We’ve enjoyed places like Austin, TX, Eureka Springs, AK, and Louisville, KY, to name a few. We cannot wait for our own family to grow and to experience family game nights and exciting road trips with them!
What Led Us To Adoption
We’ve always considered adopting as part of our family plan. The choice was an even easier one to make when we recently found out that factors regarding Cecilia’s health would make it too risky for not only her, but for the baby too. After learning the risks, rather than feeling defeated we felt excited to get our family started through the path of adoption!
