Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our family. Although we cannot understand all of the emotions you may be going through, we know what it’s like when life takes an unexpected turn. As you consider adoption, we know that you have boundless love, hopes, and dreams for your child. Our promise to you is that we will raise him or her to understand the importance of being a light in the world, kind and helpful to others, confident, and true to themselves. We will ensure that your child has every opportunity to reach his/her full potential. We’ll make sure that he or she understands the wonderful way we became a family. Above all, your child will know they are loved beyond measure.
As parents, we work hard to fill life with laughter and curiosity, and to be examples of compassion and integrity. We know that love is what makes a family, and we want to share this unconditional love with your child. We hope this letter gives you a glimpse into our hearts and lives, and we look forward to getting to know you. If your journey leads you to us, we’d be excited to welcome you into our family, in the way that you are most comfortable with.
We met where all great love stories begin...Starbucks. Eleven years later, we’re married, and have a beautiful son and a full life together. We balance each other, sharing the same important values while appreciating our differences. Sharon loves nature, while Jamise thinks every insect is a bee and takes off running. Jamise is outgoing and lights up a room with her smile. Sharon is quiet, but her sense of humor quickly shines through. Jamise works in pharmaceutical research and is also a licensed therapist. Sharon is a teacher.
We enjoy big adventures, but also the little everyday things. Jamise loves to sing with Jack, out of tune with the wrong words. Sharon loves to let him help water the flowers, though more water ends up on him. Respect for each other and being able to laugh at ourselves has helped us build a strong foundation for our marriage, and we feel blessed to have each other and our family.
We live in a historic neighborhood, where neighbors know each other and there is a real sense of community. Our home is warm, bright and comfortable with plenty of space, and all of the beautiful trees bring nature right into our backyard. We have evening visits from deer, and glimpses of little foxes can be had throughout the neighborhood. We love taking walks in our neighborhood after dinner, and Jack loves summer walks the most, because those include a popsicle. A nature walkway runs along our neighborhood as well, and we have beautiful views of the mountains. We look forward to watching your little one play in the sprinklers and blow bubbles in the yard with his or her big brother Jack.
Our Extended Family
We are very blessed to have wonderful family. Sharon’s mom lives just a few minutes away from us, and is very active in our son’s life. Jack loves to garden and get ice cream with his Granny. We make frequent trips to Atlanta so Jack can spend time with his Uncle Orlando at the aquarium and Hawks games. We visit Jamise’s mom, sister, and our large extended family in St.Louis several times a year. We always spend holidays with our families, and take family vacations to California and Hilton Head Island every year. Everyone is looking forward to sharing family traditions with a new little one.
We are fortunate to have great friends who are like family to us. Our family is not a traditional one, so we are blessed to have friends who are such great role models for Jack and who also have adopted children whom he is close with. We make sure that he sees that there are all kinds of families, and that the only thing that matters is that you love each other. Accepting, loving, and supportive…this is the kind of family we will welcome you and your child into.
What Led Us To Adoption
The love we have for each other led to us wanting to start our family. We adopted our son in 2013, and he has brought more happiness and meaning to our lives than we could ever have imagined. Our commitment to each other has only strengthened. He truly is our sunshine, and the love we have for him is infinite. We have been very blessed to have his birth mother remain in our lives, and we have always shared with Jack the immense love she has for him, that led to us being a family. We continue to share photos and texts monthly, as well as visits a few times a year so he always knows his story and how much he is loved. We are excited to grow our family, and would welcome you in whatever way you choose.
