Dear Expectant Mother,
We are so happy you are taking the time to consider helping us add to our family. We know that having the happiest day of our lives means you are likely making some of the most difficult choices of yours. We can’t imagine what you may be thinking and experiencing in your pregnancy, but we do know this process requires enormous love. We hope people along your path have treated you with tenderness and care, and we want to make this part of your journey as full of love as possible.
Our home will be one where each day provides new opportunity and adventure. We will start our days with the excitement of things to come. We will explore our garden and dig for earthworms. We will introduce tomato plants into the ground and learn about all the things it needs to grow. We will harvest cucumbers and watermelons—and see who can spit the seeds the farthest.
On weekends we will visit the widows in our neighborhood and mend their fences. We will help them make lunch, and then take tea while they tell us what life was like when they were little. We will instill responsibility and respect for those around us, and our family will learn to be compassionate, service-oriented, and loving by working together on things that matter.
When the holidays come, we will travel to be with family, or they will come to be with us. We will have a house that’s a little too loud, cousins that are a little too messy, and laughter that is a little to boisterous. And we will be thankful for you.
Lee works as a vascular surgeon and Paul works as computer programming manager. Our love story began with country line dancing and two-stepping in Philadelphia, where Lee was training to be a surgeon and Paul was finishing his degree in computer science. Our next chapter took us to Boston, where we enjoyed rowing and exploring a beautiful city. We finally settled down in a much quieter town and are having fun establishing our home and working in the yard. We travel when we can, but prefer to spend our time at home with our two cats and a puppy. We love to see and hear the neighborhood kids riding their bikes and playing around our block. Our favorite Saturday night activity is hanging out with close friends and family over dinner and board games.
We are so lucky to have a beautiful home in the suburbs with our family cats, Papa and Mama—who stay indoors and love to cuddle—and Lady, our sweet puppy. We have met so many families just walking Lady through the neighborhood, because all the kids want to pet her and let her give them puppy kisses. Lady loves to play fetch at the nearby park, but sometimes gets distracted by all the other families who are playing there. We keep a vegetable garden and enjoy crispy, fresh salads and we think this will be a great way to teach our whole family the importance of keeping a healthy diet and caring for the world around them.
Our Extended Family
When Lee was little, his mom would start each Valentine’s Day by giving him and his brother a small box of chocolates in the morning before school and telling them how much she loved them. She may have thought this was just a small thing, but Lee has always treasured that memory, and we continue the tradition in our family. Paul has a big extended Italian family. For Christmas, we all get together and enjoy The Feast of the Seven Fishes while we catch up with aunts, uncles, and cousins. We share lots of laughter and stories about silly things everyone has been up to since the last time we were with each other. We can hardly wait to bring our new family member to join with all the cousins running around leaving cookie crumbs all over Grandma’s house!
What Led Us To Adoption
From the day we met, we knew we wanted to be dads. Paul has a great relationship with his mom, and looks forward to bringing home a baby to shower with the same love. Lee’s story is a little more complicated, as he lost his family in an accident and spent most of his high school years being raised by the families of his friends. It was through the outpouring of love he received from others that he developed a special place in his heart for adoption. Throughout our relationship, our experiences and goals have been oriented toward expanding our family. Together, we want to help raise a thoughtful child who will brighten the lives of those around them.
