Dear Expectant Mother,
We would like to take this time to thank you for making such a loving and courageous decision. We recognize how tough it must be to make. Your brave decision really shows us that you want what’s best for your child.
Our hearts are overjoyed at the thought of becoming parents. We love to travel and experience new things and would most definitely share this with your child. We are both young at heart and enjoy doing kid-friendly things, such as spending time outdoors, reading, painting, and baking.
Our extended family is very excited at the prospect of a new addition to the family. All holidays and family events are centered around the children in our family. We often have crafting parties, potlucks, and get-togethers where we play fun and silly games. We cannot wait to make a child a part of such a fun, loving, and caring family.
The opportunity to love and care for your child would be the biggest gift you could give us and them. We would give ourselves completely to raising your child by instilling values and ensuring love, comfort, and opportunity. We would be honored if you would consider us as adoptive parents.
We are Mellissa and Tammy Polk. Mellissa works as a retail store manager, and Tammy works as a juvenile probation officer. We are both hard-working individuals and have a passion for what we do. We have been together for eight years and married for three. We first met when we both worked for juvenile probation, and our friendship blossomed into a relationship. Being friends first was such a great foundation for us. We really took our time getting to know each other. Although we both have close friendships with others, we can honestly say we are each other’s best friend. We share a lot of common interests and have a lot of fun together. We love traveling, doing outdoorsy things, eating good food, reading, and learning about and experiencing new things.
Although we both grew up in rural areas, we chose to live in a suburban area with the intention of someday having children. Our community has a park area with two jungle gyms, a gated pool area, picnic tables, a basketball court, and plenty of open grass space we plan to use to play games such as catch, tag, frisbee, etc. We live about 10 minutes away from a beautiful state park where we like to go hiking. We often take our dog, Max, on walks and hikes with us. He is a Catahoula, and although he is old (13), he still loves to swim and hike. Max is very sweet and well behaved. He is good with children and likes to do tricks for treats.
Our Extended Family
We are both very close to Mellissa’s extended family. We spend every holiday together and try to make it to birthday parties when we can. We also like to go on family camping trips yearly. We typically rent a cabin near a river or lake and spend a weekend taking turns cooking meals for each other, playing games, participating in water sports, and just spending time with family. Aunts, uncles, and cousins are also invited to all our activities.
Our family is very close; some might say we get together too often! They are all very excited about our decision to adopt. They know that parenthood has been a dream of ours for such a long time. They are so supportive and, like us, cannot wait for a new addition to our family.
Traditionally, our family plays the white elephant gift exchange game every Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is spent eating a hearty meal followed by a Christmas craft activity. All of our family activities are kid-friendly and fun and include lots of laughter. We are anxious to share these traditions with a child of our own.
What Led Us To Adoption
Adoption has always been an exciting option for us. We both have friends and family who have chosen adoption, are adopted, or have been touched by adoption in some way. We see adoption as a true blessing for all involved. In our situation, for example, adoption allows us to fulfill our dream of becoming parents while providing a loving home to a child. Most importantly, adoption is a loving alternative that a caring mother can turn to in the hopes of giving her child a better life.
