We both met while doing Irish dancing over ten years ago. We kept in touch over the years while Patrick lived in Belfast, Ireland and Pierce lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. Patrick was the lead dancer in Lord of the Dance for five years after which he went on to get his Masters degree in Physical Therapy in Edinburgh, Scotland. Pierce attended college in Virginia studying Spanish and psychology.
In 2011 while Pierce was studying abroad in Spain we reconnected and have been together ever since. Shortly after, we made the biggest decision of our lives to move to Texas where we now call home. We opened our own Irish dance school over five years ago and we continue to teach and travel the world doing what we love.
We live in a wonderful, culturally diverse city and our neighborhood is lined with beautiful, established oaks and has a creek running through it. There is a country club with a park, tennis courts, pool, and golf course that are all within walking distance of our home.
We share our home with our five-year-old Bichon-poodle mix, Logan. We have a large fenced in back garden that Logan loves to play in.
Our Extended Family
We are so lucky to be surrounded by a great support network in Texas, as well as wonderful family and friends around the world. Patrick's immediate family live in Belfast, Ireland, including the two newest additions to the family: a baby niece and nephew. He has a brother in Perth, Australia, and his sister splits her time between the UK and Ireland. With the great Texas weather Patrick's parents and siblings visit at least twice a year.
Pierce’s parents and extended family live in North Carolina. Pierce is lucky enough to have both sets of grandparents and the prospect of being great-grandparents is beyond exciting for them. Our biggest family holiday is Christmas, which is also Patrick’s birthday. For the entirety of our relationship we have taken turns celebrating the holidays in either Charlotte or Belfast. We also have a tradition of going on a family holiday each year to the Caribbean.
What Led Us To Adoption
There was never a question of us wanting to be parents. We both grew up in large Catholic families that are full of love, and we want to be able to share this with our child. As a gay couple, adoption was always how we hoped to achieve this. While surrogacy is an option for gay couples, very early on in this journey of becoming parents, we decided adoption was the best decision for us. We also love the idea of sharing our Irish heritage with a new child and allowing them to see the world as we did as children, full of love, laughter, and memorable experiences.
