Dear Expectant Mother,
Wonder woman. Trailblazer. Strong. Loving. That is how you will be known to your little boy or girl. We can’t imagine what you must be feeling and deeply respect the profound spiritual journey that you must be experiencing. We support you and promise to love your baby with everything we possess.
Our favorite moments to imagine: watching him or her solve a puzzle, wiping their eyes when they skin their knee, reading stories at bedtime, Saturday morning snuggles and giggles, watching their face light up when we pick them up from school. Being dads is the most significant life experience for both of us. Your baby will teach us every day.
We want to teach your baby to be an inclusive, accepting, and caring child. Your baby will know who will always be there to cheer them on and listen to everything they have to say. We are patient and compassionate, and we are waiting with open arms.
We’re a fun-loving, comical, and nurturing couple who connect through our laughter and love for our four-year old son. He is full of smiles, curious and creative. Our passion for adventure, international travel, and family brought us together while living abroad. We have lived in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam working in international schools. We have an incredibly diverse group of friends and family, and we are teaching our son Cantonese and French along with English. We have a deep appreciation for language, culture, and all that makes us different in this crazy world. We are both educators: one an elementary school counselor and another a director of college counseling supporting students finding themselves, their motivation, and plans for university/post high-school. Trucks, sharks, chocolate and love is what defines us!
There are over 20 children under the age of eight on our street! Our home is somewhat stylish and quite cozy. We love having “baby brunches,” play groups, and family get-togethers; we love a full house! We are always cooking, playing games, and watching underwater sea adventures with our chocolate labradoodle named Waffles. We have a wonderful play room where our son, his friends and cousins play: there are books, a mini-kitchen, balls, a craft table, and more. We regularly go to parks and the public library for story time. For the past three years, we’ve also had two very fun traditions: on Fridays we always have a roast chicken dinner, and on Saturdays we make French toast!
Our Extended Family
We celebrate both Christmas and Chinese New Year. Yik’s family is from New Zealand, and he also celebrates his Malaysian heritage. Together, we have Chinese, Indian, Native American, Mexican, and Puerto Rican family members. It’s like a little United Nations!
We love to travel. We were in Chicago visiting Robert’s side of the family for Thanksgiving, and this summer, we will go to New Zealand to stay with Yik’s family and spend two weeks at Grandma and Grandpa’s cottage in Wisconsin. Your baby will have three aunties and some great cousins, as well as three sets of grandparents: one in New Zealand, one in Florida, and one in Illinois. They regularly visit, so we can always count on spending time with them!
Our favorite tradition is to dress our son in red for the Chinese New Year and take photos for the annual card to send to all of our family. We can’t wait for your precious baby to join in! Both our families are excited to welcome your little boy or girl, and we already have five volunteers to come stay with us to help and spoil him or her in the first few months!
Our Adoption Story
We have a dear friend who was adopted, and we have also worked closely with students who have also been adopted. We want to grow our family, and while we aren’t perfect, we know what we have to offer is unconditional love, consistent and unwavering support, and a vast support system from family and friends worldwide. Your child will know they are loved and they will also have a sibling to share their life journey and know them.
