Steven & Fredric

Family Type: Gay Couple
State we live in: Georgia

dear expectant mother

Where do we start? With a tremendous thank you! Such a simple phrase to express the extreme gratitude, honor, love, and respect we feel for you and the most precious gift you are considering giving—the opportunity to love, cherish, provide for, and care for your child. Please know this is not a responsibility we will ever take lightly, and we are humbled you are considering us. We will always honor, acknowledge, and respect this special and selfless gift.

We commit to providing your child with a loving, nurturing, supportive, and safe environment. Steven cannot wait to share his passion for music, the arts, comics, cooking and the movies. He cannot wait to show your child all the colors, sounds, and wonders the world has to offer them. Fred cannot wait to engage your child’s imagination, curiosity and expressiveness and help them explore their sense of adventure. Sonni is an incredibly gentle, joyful, and loving child, and we just know she will adorn her new brother or sister with lots of hugs, love, and affection.

Our devotion to each other over the last 14 years has helped us to grow as individuals, and we have learned how to face challenges head on, overcome obstacles together, face our fears, and find our way through the world. We promise to share this same love with your child.

So again, we say THANK YOU with all of the gratitude, love, support, and respect in the world.

Steven, Fred & Sonni

Our biggest dream and desire is for Sonni and your child to know how deeply loved and cherished they are. Adoption is the best gift anyone could ever give!

-Steven & Fredric

About Us

Steven is from a small town in North Carolina, and Fred is from a suburb of Michigan. Steven comes from a large family (youngest of 11), and Fred is an only child. We are both from blue-collar families and meager means, each with their own unique struggles. However, through any struggle, love and support was always the constant in our families and is the foundation of our home today. We own our own business providing care for seniors. We originally met in December 2008 in Alaska, just two days after Fred had relocated. Neither of us ever really believed in love at first sight; however, lightning struck on that first meeting, and we were married eight months later! In 2020 we had the biggest blessing of our lives when we adopted our daughter, Sonni, and she has been the world to us ever since. We share a strong passion for one another, our daughter, our fur babies, our families, and our community.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is located in a beautiful and established neighborhood just outside of a large Southern city, where our neighbors are always incredibly friendly and supportive and we all look out for one another and each other’s kids. The neighborhood is beautifully landscaped, and there are always lots of children playing. Our three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home includes a large, fenced-in backyard where Sonni and our two dogs (Lily and Archie) enjoy running around, playing, and sunbathing (the dogs) on a daily basis. With the city only minutes away, we have access to museums, the zoo, a world-class aquarium, lots of parks and trails, an amusement park, and a very popular art and theater scene. There is always something to do!

Our Extended Family

Family is very important to both of us, and we both enjoy very close relationships with them. We make the time to visit and spend quality time with them. We also do a summer vacation with our two best friends and their daughters. (Yes, they call us their “funcles”!)

We are blessed to have very close friendships and bonds with other LGBTQ families in our community. We get together for cookouts, playdates, weekend getaways, dinners, holidays, and birthdays. All of the parents in this group have adopted, and we all lean on each other for support, love, and encouragement.

We love to travel within the United States and abroad, often with our extended family. So far, we have visited 29 states together (six with Sonni) and seven countries (two with Sonni). Every Thanksgiving, you can find Steven in the kitchen at 5 a.m. preparing a huge meal. Later we go to the Christmas tree farm and pick out our own special tree with warm apple cider. Each Christmas Eve, we bake cookies for Santa with Sonni and leave them by the fireplace with milk. We open one present then sing Christmas songs and watch Rudolph and Frosty before bed. Christmas morning has lots of presents, FaceTime with the grandparents, music, and laughter.

Our Adoption Story

We have both had friends who were either adopted or who had adopted and saw firsthand what a beautiful life they had provided for them or provided for their children. We knew when we made the decision to start a family that adoption was the only way to go. In 2020 Sonni was born, and our world changed forever. We are extremely privileged to be given the honor by her mother to love and raise Sonni. We almost immediately knew we wanted to raise Sonni alongside a sibling. Our biggest dream and desire is for Sonni and your child to know how deeply loved and cherished they are. Adoption is the best gift anyone could ever give!
