Adam & Shawn

Family Type: Gay Couple
State we live in: Iowa

dear expectant mother

Growing up, we wondered if we would be fathers. However, in 2019, shortly after our wedding, things changed suddenly when Gabriel came into our lives and made us the one thing we always dreamed of. In 2021, Tristan came into our lives and blessed us beyond our wildest dreams for the short time he was on Earth. Gabriel is excited to have a sibling again and his Daddy (Shawn) and Ota (Adam) are excited to share their love.

When we finalized Gabriel’s adoption, the judge asked us to make a promise to love, support, and provide for him, which we agreed to. We made that same promise to Tristan’s birth family and fulfilled that promise through his time here. We are here to make that same promise to you. We will support this child, provide for them, and love them unconditionally. We promise to take them on adventures, to teach them everything we can, and to support their dreams.

However, all of this would not be possible without you. While we are excited to add another child to our family, we cannot imagine the strength it has taken for you to get here. You are braver and more courageous than we can comprehend. You are considering helping us grow our family, and for that we are grateful. We hope you find comfort in the fact that we are excited to cherish this child with our whole hearts and to give them a life full of joy, happiness and love.

About Us

Adam fell in love with Shawn’s outgoing personality, love of art, and ability to enjoy life. Shawn fell in love with Adam’s passion for life, nurturing spirit and ability to find the positive in everything.
In November of 2018, after three years of dating, we had the most beautiful wedding we could have imagined. Shortly after our wedding, we met Gabriel, who was three-months-old at the time and is 3 now, and were blessed to adopt him. In 2021 we met our second child, Tristan, who brought us much joy, excitement and knowledge. Unfortunately, his time on Earth was short due to medical issues and while he is no longer here physically, he remains in our hearts and watches over us as we continue through life.
Together, we travel, take our dogs for walks, spend time with family and friends, go to the zoo and science center, listen to music, dance, play games, bake, and swim.

Our Home & Pets

We have a beautiful home in a metropolitan area that is perfect for children to play. We have wonderful neighbors, and there are always children playing outside, riding bikes, and playing at the local playgrounds. We are lucky to have many child-friendly activities around our community, including pools, parks, arcades, rock climbing, sporting events, farmer’s markets, zoos, museums, Special Olympics and more! The school district we work in, where your child would attend, is strong in all areas, including both general education and special education.
Lastly, the other member of our family; our dog. We have one amazing and loving dog, Gigi, who is excited to share her love!

Our Extended Family

Adam’s family lives in Minnesota, where his dad is a Methodist pastor and his mom is a regional director of a nursing home. Adam’s brother and sister-in-law have a five-year-old son, whom we love. Every Thanksgiving we spend time in Minnesota celebrating and making sure to find amazing Black Friday deals! We also enjoy time in Minnesota around Christmas, in the summer and any time we can take a weekend vacation.

Shawn’s family lives in Iowa, close to us, where his dad is a car salesman and his mom is a director of a daycare. Shawn’s sister and brother-in-law reside in Iowa, as well. We enjoy our tradition of Sunday dinner with Shawn’s family as well as making memories around Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and any other holiday we can celebrate. Both families love and spoil Gabriel and loved spoiling Tristan.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we not only have amazing families, but the best chosen family ever. They help make our village strong.

Our Adoption Story

Our first date turned quickly to discussions about children and knew then that we wanted a family. As our love grew, so did our desire to have children. Shawn’s father was adopted, Adam has an aunt who was adopted and, of course, we adopted Gabriel and Tristan, our Down syndrome hero and heart warrior. Adoption has always been our plan, and we are excited to be adopting again.
We are open to any type of adoption, as open or closed as you would like. We look forward to welcoming you and this child into our family. We are excited to get to know you and learn more about you as we go through this adoption process together.
