Dear Expectant Mother,
We have thought of you so much over the past few weeks, months, and years. We knew someone was out there who would recognize our family as the perfect fit for her child. While we were celebrating the holidays with Elf on the Shelf hijinks, organizing a Nerf gun fight with children in the neighborhood, and exploring new places close to home or all over the country, we always knew we were saving space for someone special. We have so many big plans!
There has never been a better time for us to add to our family. We are proud of our neighborhood and community; they’ve been working hard to make our local schools the best they can be! There are more opportunities than ever to explore and learn.
We hold knowledge, art, science, music, and storytelling at the forefront of our family interests. We also recognize that a child will introduce us to new ideas as they grow up and promise to value their thoughts and feelings—their personal sense of self—always. We also vow to make their birth heritage an integral part of their life.
Our friends and family have been overwhelmingly excited to find out we’re pursuing adoption! The outpouring of love has been astounding and humbling. We can’t wait to reflect all of that love and excitement into your child’s life, with your blessing. Thank you—so much.
Humor is very important in our household! Brittany is a radio DJ and programmer; Christian works on writing and animating TV shows and movies. He also creates art and is a member of a nationally renowned improv and theatre company! We’ve been married for about eight years, and we knew right away that we were a perfect fit for each other. We live in an urban setting (but still have a backyard!) and really enjoy being part of our neighborhood. We enjoy activities together but also participate in independent interests and hobbies. We take pride in how much support we provide each other through our differences as well as our strengths. We’ve wanted to have a family together since we met—we were just waiting for the time to be right. We’re hoping that time is now!
We live in a 100-year-old house in a small but historically important urban neighborhood that is growing by the day! We’re just two blocks off of a massive, multi-use trail, with access to parks and playgrounds, cool restaurants we can walk to, and a movie theater at the end of our street. We also love animals! We have SIX rescue animals: three dogs and three cats. They all get along great with each other. They’re also extremely chill. (Read: They sleep all day.)
Our Extended Family
Christian’s parents live near the beach in the Northeast U.S. We visit every summer to play in the sand, swim in the ocean, and ride the boardwalk rides. Benji especially loves winning prizes from the boardwalk games; he’s amassed quite a collection!
Brittany was raised by her grandparents and is still very close to them. They live not far from her dad and a smattering of aunts and uncles, so visits mean lots of extended family! Brittany’s mother and stepfather live in Canada, so she doesn’t get to see them quite as often, but they speak nearly every day and video chat with the family regularly.
Since our immediate relatives live so far away and are getting older, they are not involved in our day-to-day lives, but we’ve created our own “family” out of friends and loved ones, who are just as dedicated to us as any blood relatives. Neither of us have siblings, but we greatly value the opportunity to give Benji a brother or sister he will be close to his entire life! Coming from diverse situations, we’ve blended and adapted many family traditions to fit us plus made up new ones along the way!
What Led Us To Adoption
Brittany has grown up with an interest in adding to her family through adoption. It just feels right. Although she doesn’t come from a large family, she has formed deep and lasting relationships with friends throughout her life, considering them her “people.” Love is about so much more than a blood connection. We are already parents to Christian’s biological son, Benjamin, who’s 10. Brittany has been his “bonus mommy” since he was just a year old! Now we’re elated to add another child who will be an integral part of our family unit. We have tons of love to give, and the idea of connecting with a birth mom to grow our loving, fun home is the greatest thing we can think of.
