Cassia & Tyler

Family Type: Heterosexual Couple
State we live in: Alaska

dear expectant mother

We are an adventurous, energetic, and outdoorsy family that cherishes every moment we spend together. While we love to insert fun and laughter into our daily lives, we also acknowledge that difficult situations require thoughtful decisions. Our family will respect all the decisions you make for you and your baby. We are honored and privileged to have you read our profile. For you to consider our family to raise your child is a blessing in itself.

Our home is filled with love, and we would be delighted to have another baby to share in those warm hugs, cuddly reading times, and memories made picking berries and roasting marshmallows together. The chaos of an evening routine of mealtime, baths, reading books, and bedtime will be met with lighthearted bliss. When the weather is nice, weekends will be spent outside hiking and exploring the tundra, camping, fishing, or combing the beach for treasures that have washed up on the shore. A rainy day will not go by without a round of puddle jumping followed by a batch of hot cocoa with a comfy blanket for a family movie. As your child grows older, they will also learn how to cope with day-to-day frustrations through healthy activities like exercise and hobbies.

We can guarantee a healthy dose of joy balanced with quality structure, no different from how we already take on every day as a family. Your child would receive the absolute best care, love, attention, and opportunities our family can provide.

About Us

We have been together for seven years and married for five. We love hiking, running, swimming, boating, biking, snowmachining, and all the outdoor activities up here in Alaska. Naturally, sharing the same interests brought us to similar friend groups and similar community events. Every year in the spring, our town has a half-marathon to kick off the warm season. This is where we met for the first time. We enjoyed each other’s company and conversation so much we decided to continue to hang out, and, well, the rest is history. Tyler works for the National Park Service as a park ranger. Cassia works at our local school district as a preschool teacher. Camping and going to our friends’ cabins, no matter the season, are our family’s favorite weekend adventures.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is in the central part of town, close to friends, the ocean, and the school. The ocean is the perfect place for our family to go out and fish, ice fish, or boat. In the summertime, we love to get out and walk around the loop road. We also enjoy going up to the rolling hills, less than a mile away, to pick wild berries. Our home has a large, fully fenced yard we love to play outdoor games in. We also have our own greenhouse where we grow and share veggies, herbs, and flowers with our family and friends. Being in a small village, you know everyone in town. Our neighborhood is safe and has always been a close community.

Our Extended Family

Both sides of our family are very involved in our lives. Some of our extended family members have been adopted themselves or are adopting children of their own.

We have a lot of family traditions. We love going to Wisconsin every year to visit the pumpkin patch in the fall. We are able to visit family, go on hay wagon rides, play on slides, and eat amazing apple donuts. The day after Thanksgiving, we visit Grandma and Grandpa, who live in our town, to put up the Christmas tree and ornaments and make Christmas cookies. The winter traditions involve lots of sledding, snow machining, going to friends’ cabins, and drinking hot cocoa while cuddling up to watch our favorite Disney movies.

In the summertime, we like to meet up with some of our extended family to go salmon and halibut fishing in southeast Alaska. We also enjoy berry picking, going to the beach for cookouts, combing the shore for treasures, and enjoying delicious s’mores as a family. Last but not least, every Friday we have family pizza night and make pizza with family and friends.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always viewed adoption as a way to grow our family. We have several family members who are a part of our loving family through the adoption process. About two months after having our little girl, Cassia required emergency open-heart surgery due to an infection in her heart. Luckily the doctors were able to do an amazing job of stopping the infection and repairing the damage that had been done so she could once again live an active and healthy lifestyle. However, due to the increased risk of another similar infection during labor and delivery, the doctors do not recommend Cassia try to go through another pregnancy. We can’t think of a more delightful way to grow our little family than through adoption.
