Jacob & Tanner

Family Type: Gay
State we live in: Washington

dear expectant mother

We don’t even know your name yet, but there aren’t enough words to tell you how much we respect and appreciate you. We will never know what it’s like to consider the choices you have, but please know how much we appreciate you. We have dreamed of being parents for a long time, and thanks to you, our dreams get to come true. It would be the proudest moment of our lives if you chose to let us join you on this truly unique journey.

We want to hear your story and know you so we can give those stories to your child. We will welcome your child into our lives with openness and unconditional love. As a same sex couple, we know family is who you choose as much as who you share blood with. Your impact on us will carry on for the rest of our lives.

We’re two goofy, loving, affectionate people who love to laugh and bring joy to the people around us. We want to give your child every opportunity we can. We want your child to be happy and make sure they are never afraid to embrace the silly parts of life. Laughter, music, and food are important to our lives, and we look forward to sharing that with your child.

It would be the proudest moment of our lives if you chose to let us join you on this truly unique journey.

About Us

Our love started over a bowl of soup. We met through a dating app, and after chatting for a while, Tanner mentioned he wasn’t feeling well, so Jacob offered to cook tom kha soup. It helped Tanner feel better, and it started a relationship that has lasted for years. We were married in May of 2019. We spend our weekends exploring the world through food. Jacob is the chef, and Tanner always helps with the dishes. We share our love of food with friends and family any chance we get. Tanner works as a para-educator for a local school district in a classroom for students on the Autism spectrum, and Jacob works as a radiation safety technician. We love watching Disney movies, stand-up comedy, and reality competition shows. Tanner loves to watch fashion shows and read fashion magazines, while Jacob loves to sing and play guitar.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a wonderful historic neighborhood of our town, across the street from a private elementary school and two blocks from the public one. We also live across the street from a park where we love to take our nieces and nephews to play and have picnics. We love going to community events celebrating local art, the farmers market, and fundraisers for charity. We have a Russian blue cat named Sonny and a Chihuahua mix rescue dog named Calvin. We love to take Calvin for walks through our neighborhood and let him run in the park. Sonny is usually found lounging in the front window, soaking up the sun. We each adopted our pets before our relationship started, but they get along like brothers now.

Our Extended Family

Jacob comes from a large family with three grandparents, nine aunts and uncles, mom and dad, a younger brother and sister, eleven cousins and their six kids, and two “nephews” from his best friends. The cousins all grew up in the same neighborhood, so they were always playing together and still maintain a strong relationship.

Tanner has his grandfather, mother, older sister, younger brother and sister, three uncles, six cousins, two nieces, and three nephews. Tanner has always had a close relationship with his nephews and nieces.

Family has always been important to both of us. Holiday gatherings and celebrations are always filled with lots of laughter and love. We also spend a lot of time during the summer at Jacob’s grandma’s house with family around the pool, sharing meals and making memories. The Fourth of July is Jacob’s grandparents’ anniversary, so it is always a time to celebrate the beginning of his family. Tanner has introduced a tradition we look forward to continuing with our child: hot cocoa and a Disney movie followed by reading The Night Before Christmas before bed on Christmas Eve.

What Led Us To Adoption

We began discussing our future soon after our relationship became serious. We both knew we wanted to raise a family together. Tanner has worked as a nanny and in childcare and education since he was 18. He loves being around children and has always wanted to be a parent. Jacob comes from a large family, so there were always babies to hold and kids running around at family gatherings. We decided adoption is the best way to grow our family because we have seen the amazing impact of adoption. Jacob’s grandmother was adopted at a young age, and she always taught us to make room at the table because everyone should be treated as family when they are welcomed into your home. We believe love makes a family.
