Jason & Melanie

Family Type: Traditional
State we live in: North Carolina

dear expectant mother

We would love nothing more than to welcome your child into our family and be able to include them in our lives! We have a bedroom for them in our home and a place for them in our hearts.

On weeknights, smells of food and sounds of laughter often fill the house as we make meals together and watch a funny clip on TV or read a silly book together. Weekends will find us having a game or movie night in our home with friends or family when we can or going to the drive-in movie theater or the park to run and play. Sebastian longs for a little brother or sister he can play with in the backyard as they find ladybugs and grasshoppers, chase butterflies, blow dandelions, and enjoy being a kid! There’s a creek in the woods behind our new house. That area allows kids to explore and let their imaginations run wild. Our philosophy is to let kids be kids and empower them to be independent (while Melanie sneaks in snapshots of them as they grow up!). Sebastian wants you to know that he is going to be an astronaut when he is 10 years old and a chef when he is 11. Whatever interest your child shows, that will become a part of our lives as well.

We certainly aren't perfect, but we love each other unconditionally and are waiting with open arms to complete our family of four.

We would love nothing more than to welcome your child into our family and be able to include them in our lives! We have a bedroom for them in our home and a place for them in our hearts.

About Us

Jason grew up in North Carolina and went to college to study computer science. Melanie grew up in southern Florida, was active in high school band, and loved going to concerts with friends. While Jason studied, we got to know each other while playing an online game. We met in person soon after at a party in Florida. Enamored, he drove back to see her several times. Later that year, he convinced her to move to North Carolina, and we haven't been apart since! We were married 18 months later, and Jason graduated and found a job while Melanie went to school to study graphic design. After graduating, she started her own design and photography studio, which she ran for many years. Time has flown by, and we are ready to focus on growing our family and providing memories we'll cherish!

Our Home & Pets

We currently live in a two-story house in the suburbs but are having a one-story home built to better accommodate Sebastian’s epilepsy condition. We work near home and love spending our weekends visiting family or going to parks and playgrounds. There’s also a nearby drive-in movie theater we like to visit on cool summer nights! Our furry child is a boxer mix named Bella who’s still a playful pup at age 12. In the evenings, we can be found taking a walk around the neighborhood. Our dear friend Lana runs a wonderful in-home daycare right across the street from our house, and she's helped us watch over Sebastian since he was an infant. She can’t wait to meet the next addition to our family.

Our Extended Family

Jason's family consists of his parents, three sisters, brother, and seven nieces and nephews, all in North Carolina. We visit them as often as we're able and have family reunions every two years along different spots on the East Coast. Two of Jason’s siblings were adopted from Thailand as children, which led to a wonderfully diverse family dynamic!

Melanie's father and stepmother live nearby and visit often. Her brother recently moved to Colorado, so we don't get to see him in person often, but with video calling, it’s like he’s still nearby! Her stepsister lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and daughter, and we like to visit them for the winter holidays. They (and Melanie’s stepmother) are Puerto Rican, so that adds even more cultural spice to our lives!

We love spending time with our family! We hope to visit Melanie’s uncle, aunt, and cousins and their families in Canada, perhaps in 2022! We love going to family reunions and visiting theme parks, national parks, and zoos and seeing and learning about all the wonders of the natural world. We want to share that with our children.

What Led Us To Adoption

We always planned on having children, but up until about seven years ago, Melanie's family and design studio monopolized her time and attention. In 2013 we started seriously trying to grow our family, and after several miscarriages and medical intervention, we were thrilled to welcome our son, Sebastian, into the world in 2015. Early in 2018, we learned he has childhood epilepsy, which we've accepted is part of our life. We continued to try to grow our family, but medical difficulties caused us to reconsider the biological approach and opt to pursue adoption. Jason has an adopted brother and sister, and we have always wanted to grow our family through adoption.
