Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you so much for considering us as parents for your baby, a consideration that already makes us feel fortunate. Truthfully, we do not know all of what you are feeling as you make your decision regarding adoption, but we recognize it is not an easy one. We hope we can offer you the support you need and the comfort knowing that we can be parents to your child you would be proud of, providing them support, encouragement, and love so they grow to be an amazing human being.
Abby was adopted too, and we try to consider how her birth mother made her choice. Her adoptive parents shared her adoption story with her from the moment she was born, and this story has been a natural part of her existence. Abby has always had deep feelings of gratitude, respect, and admiration for her birth mother and the difficult and loving decision she made.
We have built a family of love, laughter, compassion, adventure, and curiosity. We believe in fairness, equality, and engagement in the world to make it an even better place for our daughter and your child. We look forward to sharing the natural world, diverse peoples, different countries, and a fiercely loving community of friends and family with your child. The opportunity to raise another child together and grow our family puts smiles on our faces and butterflies in our stomachs.
Thank you again for considering us as parents to your baby.
We are Abby and Jason, a loving and adventurous Pacific Northwest couple who first met eight years ago. Jason was working in central Washington, and Abby was in western Washington with her one-year-old daughter. After a two-year long-distance relationship, Jason moved west to be with Abby and her young daughter…an irresistible package deal. Today we are a family that enjoys bike rides, music, dancing, movies, theater, family meals, camping, snow adventures and meeting up with friends. Laughter is a constant in our home. We enjoy visiting our parents in California and in New Jersey and love their visits to see us. We have built a strong community of friends that surround us and are our extended family. Jason works as a senior program manager at an environmental conservation organization. Abby leads content development at a company, creating exhibits for museums and parks throughout the country.
We are excited to share our wonderful neighborhood with your child: three nearby parks, the ocean two miles away, the elementary school and shops within a short walking distance, library story hour, and trips to the zoo. Our mid-century modern house is on a large landscaped lot with garden boxes filled with tomatoes, carrots, and greens. We share a weekly local farm produce box with neighbors, watch outdoor movies, make s’mores in our outdoor fireplace, and enjoy block parties with the other families on our street, including ten kids under nine years old. Our 11-year-old dog, Luna, a red heeler, is a family member in fur who loves morning walks, belly rubs, and our daughter. There is so much we look forward to sharing!
Our Extended Family
Abby’s parents, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew live in New Jersey. We visit East Coast family at a summer beach house and also have a family winter holiday gathering with trips to Philadelphia and New York. Abby’s parents visit us during Passover and Thanksgiving. Jason’s parents live in California near Redwood National Park. We travel to his parents’ during a spring break road trip, and they meet us with their Airstream trailer to camp near a Pacific Northwest river.
Our parents are very excited we are growing our family and are eager to hold your baby as grandparents. Our extended family of friends are lining up to babysit, with some declaring, “We hoped you would have another kid!”
We love bicycling, visiting museums, family reading, and eating on the deck while watching the sun slip into the ocean. Our summers include a weeklong camping trip in the Pacific Northwest or Canada. We love a bike to the park by the Pacific Ocean. Our daughter just started cross country skiing and snow-shoeing, two winter activities we love. We look forward to your baby being part of these adventures in a carriage behind a bike or cross country skis or being held by us.
What Led Us To Adoption
We have long wanted to grow our family, and adoption has been a natural choice. Abby and her sister were both adopted and grew up feeling proud of their birth stories. It’s also natural for us because in our upbringing, people who were not biologically related to us are essential to our lives. Jason was raised by his mom and stepfather, and Jason is now a father to Abby’s daughter. Jason has two cousins who are adopted. Our families, both of them, are bound by love. Our background and our lives make us convinced adoption is the perfect way to grow our family.
