Dear Expectant Mother,
We wanted to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves as you make this respectful, admirable, and very difficult decision. If we put ourselves in your shoes, we would want to know how safe and loved any family member joining our home would be. So here are a few promises to you:
1. We promise to always be honest and forthcoming about adoption, you, and this journey. We know and appreciate how important you are and want to make sure any family member understands this as well.
2. We promise to love and protect any child in our home. We, along with our families and friends, will love any child that joins this family and will do everything we can to keep them safe, provided for, and happy.
3. We promise to support any family member through their happy times, scary times, and challenging times. Every day is a new adventure, and through the ups and downs, we hope any child that joins us will know that no matter what, they can come to us and we will be there.
4. Lastly, we promise to emphasize the importance of family, education, independence, hard work, ambition, and having fun.
In both of our lives, we have had so much love, support, and happiness, and we want to pass this along. Please know your child will have so many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and us to love them and support them.
We knew instantly that we would make a great team. We have the same values and even our differences complement each other. Jodi, a yoga-loving marketing professional, loves to be creative and to think outside of the box. Alex, a sports fan, engineer and manager, loves cars and history as well. Together, we enjoy taking walks, listening to music and learning new things. We balance each other with a good mix of imagination and realism. We love being active and spending time with our favorite people, which makes for fun days with family and friends. Most importantly, we always support one another and our loved ones.
Our favorite aspect of home is our living room. We spend so much time in the living room talking about our day, supporting each other, and laughing with each other and our loved ones. We love going to our neighbors’ houses and spending time with them. Having lived in our house for two years, we have had countless dinners and Sunday afternoon football viewing parties with friends and family that have filled the inside and outside of our home with warmth and laughter. This group of friends cannot wait to grow! Aside from being at home, we love to travel and explore new cities, relax on the beach, read, go to concerts, and focus on our health. Alex loves to exercise (we have a home gym in our basement) and to play sports (basketball nights are at least once a week), and Jodi enjoys doing yoga and taking walks with friends. She also loves to go to spin classes.
Our Extended Family
Jodi grew up with her parents, two sisters, brother, and grandmother nearby. There was never a dull moment. Every Friday night they all sat down and had dinner together. Jodi’s dad would take a few minutes to teach an important life lesson. Jodi’s mom would make it known how important it was to laugh and to have fun. Most importantly, after school, Jodi’s mom would finish work early so she and Jodi's grandma were always home to spend time with all the kids.
Our parents are excited to watch their newest grandchild and our siblings cannot wait to spoil their newest niece or nephew. We all look forward to the amazing memories we will make together.
Growing up, Alex looked forward to his weekends. On Friday nights, he would have a slumber party with his grandparents and enjoy some delicious home-cooked food. On Saturdays and Sundays, he would spend time with his friends, doing homework, and watching sports with his dad and grandpa. To this day, Alex will still catch some football and basketball games with his dad over the weekend. His mom and sister would just laugh (and continue to) at how involved the guys would get. Alex cannot wait to continue spending the weekends with his growing family, whether that is Friday night dinners and slumber parties, sports outings, or helping with homework.
What Led Us To Adoption
When we finally met each other and began our loving fairy tale, we talked about our dreams of having children and raising a family. Due to infertility issues, we are not able to have biological children, but that did not stop our dreams. It only steered us down a different path, the amazing path of adoption.
