Laura & Claire

Family Type: LGBT
State we live in: Kentucky

dear expectant mother

We feel like we have already met you because we have been thinking about you for so long. We have tried to imagine what you are like, what makes you laugh, and what makes you worried, as we are sure you have done for the family that might raise your child. We are connected already because we both dream about the life of your child.

We are two people in love who can promise your child a home full of devotion. We value compassion and goodwill, and we can promise that your child will receive kindness and will learn to offer it freely. We live each day with passion and gratitude for what we have been given, and we can promise that your child will appreciate the beauty of the world and the people in it.

We dream of taking your child camping for the first time or teaching him or her how to write their name. We imagine teaching your child how to ride a bike or how to endure their first skinned knee. We close our eyes and see him or her shaking Christmas presents under the tree to guess what is hidden inside. Most importantly, we dream of a safe and loving home for your child for the rest of his or her life. Our dreams and your dreams, we imagine, are not that different.

About Us

We feel so lucky to love each other. We met in college and have built our lives together ever since. Our favorite adventures are exploring national parks, and we cannot wait to teach your child how to love the outdoors. We often spend our summer weekends hiking or camping, and we often try new hobbies like mountain biking and paddle boarding. Laura is an accountant, and Claire is a graduate assistant pursuing a Ph.D. Our family has always valued education, and we both strive to create a culture of learning. We can assure you that your baby will grow up with a love of nature and the promise of education. We also try to make our corner of the world a better place, and we will do everything we can to raise your child to be not only happy and healthy but a kind and compassionate person.

Our Home

Our favorite aspect of our home is how cozy and safe it feels. In the summer, we love to lounge on the porch with good books while surrounded by flowers. In the cooler months, we curl up on the couch with our cat, Zephyr, who still acts like a kitten despite being nine years old. He cuddles every time a blanket is out, and when he’s not batting a ball around, he spends his days watching birds and chipmunks out the windows. The neighborhoods around our apartment are beautiful and safe for running, and they house a local park with a walking trail, a pond (with fishing), a playground, trees for hammocks, and space for dogs to run and for youth sports teams to practice.

Our Extended Family

We are so grateful to have such a supportive extended family on both sides. Four generations—from eighty-six-year-old grandparents to a one-year-old niece—surround us with love and joy. At our wedding, most of the people in attendance were family members who could not wait to kick off our marriage; they have been so eager for us to start a family ever since.

When the whole family gets together for weddings or graduations, we fill the room with laughter and stories that get retold year after year. Our family also loves to play, so we often bring a favorite board game along for a rematch! More than anything else, we love to talk, and we spend our days together chatting around the coffee table. With our family, your baby would gain much more than two parents; he or she would get a team of cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and great-grandparents who cannot wait for us to have a kiddo of our own.

What Led Us To Adoption

Our adoption journey began with infertility, but since starting our adoption process, we know that we are on the right track to growing our family. We have such hope that as an expectant mother you will see our family and our love the way we see it, as warm, unconditional, and uplifting. Our extended family includes several members through adoption who have shown us how adoption can allow a family to blossom in new and unimaginable ways. We have envisioned ourselves with a little one for years now, and our priority has always been on the family we create, not how we create it.
