We can’t begin to imagine what a difficult and emotional decision you are making. Your decision takes courage and strength, and we admire you for that. We strongly believe the gift you will give is the most precious gift any human being could give to another. We will do our best to honor your gift and respect your wishes.
We’re not perfect parents, and we’re not going to raise a perfect child, but we want to raise your child with the utmost love and respect. We know first-hand that raising a child is a difficult and trying process, filled with many ups and downs. Thank you for considering us to take this ride with your child. We have great respect and admiration for your decision.
Sayaka grew up in a quiet town in Japan. As a young child, she enjoyed exploring forests and running around rice fields. In her early twenties, she lived in Canada for a year to practice English.
Lorenzo grew up in the suburbs outside of Toronto, Canada. He went to Japan on a year-long internship while studying Computer Science in college. It was there that we met each other through a mutual friend. We maintained a long-distance relationship until deciding to marry and settle down in the Pacific Northwest seven years ago.
Our first and only child, a boy, was born in 2014. Lorenzo has been working as a software developer for over ten years, but is currently on a sabbatical and attending wilderness education courses part-time.
We live in a quiet neighborhood in close proximity to several families with young children. We are close friends with many of these families and organize play dates on a regular basis, including at our home. There are numerous parks, trails, and beaches within walking or biking distance.
We share our house with a fluffy Siberian cat named Lawrence. He enjoys kids and exploring the neighborhood, both by himself and with others.
Our Extended Family
We usually travel to our home countries of Canada and Japan to visit family every year. We typically visit Japan in the spring when the beautiful cherry blossoms are in bloom, and we’ll travel to Canada in the spring or fall when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. Both sides of the family are extremely grateful to see us when we visit and we feel like royalty.
We’ve made an effort to develop new traditions for our growing family here in the USA. When the weather cooperates, we love having picnics or meals in our backyard and at the park. Lorenzo loves cycling, so we go out for family bike rides whenever we get a chance. Lorenzo is pursuing naturalist studies during his sabbatical, so he enjoys hiking, camping or simple walks in the park. He enjoys uncovering the infinite layers of depth in nature together with his family. Sayaka and Tatsuki both love to sing and dance - they even receive frequent compliments about their talents!
What Led Us To Adoption
We’ve had numerous heartfelt discussions about having more children ever since our son was born. Neither of us are only children, and both of us deeply understand the value and gift of having siblings. We’ve discussed and researched fostering and adoption numerous times over the years, but we had never quite found the right agency to work with. As soon as we discovered Lifelong Adoptions and explored their values and philosophy, we knew this was the best place for us to pursue being adoptive parents.
