Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you for considering us as the adoptive parents of your baby. We’ve always wanted to be parents and look to adoption as the best opportunity to make our dream come true. Our hope is to provide this child with a loving and supportive atmosphere, nurturing them to be caring, generous, and compassionate to those around them.
We understand the value of hobbies and creative outlets. We’re excited to encourage our child to follow any passions they may have and to experience different cultures. With our love for the environment and adventure, we want to teach our child to respect the world around them by taking them camping and hiking, going on road trips, traveling to different countries, and learning about the importance of plants and animals.
We’re fortunate to have many diverse friends who are also parents. We look forward to playdates with our friends and their kids and seeing our kids grow up together in culturally rich environments. Our families are very important to us. We can’t wait to travel home to celebrate the holidays with everyone, especially so our parents can get quality time with their new grandchild.
We again want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your consideration. We would be immensely honored to raise your child. We look forward to meeting you and learning how we can best honor your gift.
Mark is from the East Coast and currently works full time as a Sr. IT helpdesk analyst providing technical support to his co-workers. Zak is from the Midwest and currently works full time at a local cidery as a bar manager and handles product distribution to local restaurants and bars. We met online and quickly discovered we shared a love of Disney, running, reading, and volunteering. These similar interests have provided us with numerous memories and created a strong foundation to our relationship. We purchased our first home together in May of 2015. We have enjoyed hosting birthdays, holidays, and summer BBQs in our home. We were married on a local farm in September of 2016 surrounded by family and friends. We also love adventure. We’ve taken road trips to San Francisco, Oregon, and Mexico and can’t wait for our next adventure—parenthood!
We’ve lived in our home for four years now, happily dubbed MerManor. We have two adorable cats, Ruby Dee and Sophia Rose, and a loveable dog named Lexie. Since we love to read, we have two full bookshelves in our living room, which also contain some of our favorite children’s books. We also enjoy gardening and have numerous plants and trees on our property and in our home. We have four bountiful fruit trees located in our backyard, three orange and one grapefruit, which are delicious. Our home is located near two elementary schools, a library, parks, and numerous family-friendly restaurants. We look forward to playing in the park with our kid(s), walking them to school, and running as a family in the annual Thanksgiving 5k.
Our Extended Family
Although we love hosting various holidays and celebrations at our home with family and friends (Easter, graduations, and baby showers), some of our favorite family traditions are centered around Christmas. For the past three years we’ve flown home to spend Christmas with Zak’s side of the family in Ohio then driven to Maryland to spend Christmas with Mark’s family. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family in our hometowns celebrating traditions from both sides of our family.
Each year we also run in annual local Gay Pride and Thanksgiving Day 5ks with our friends. It’s a great way to celebrate with those around us, donate to good causes, and participate in some physical activity. We camp often throughout the year, but our favorite is Beach Camp. We join our friends and their family for a few days of camping near a local state beach. While there, we typically swim and surf in the ocean, laugh and play games at the campsite, and relax with some great campfire food and conversation.
What Led Us To Adoption
From day one, we’ve talked about being fathers. We both look forward to the joy and laughter of having a child in our lives along with the challenges that parenting may bring. We both grew up in environments full of love and support from various family and friends. We understand the importance of providing children with a safe and nurturing home, surrounding them with supportive and caring people, and giving them opportunities to learn and grow. We truly feel adoption can be another aspect of our “it takes a village” mentality toward family and are excited to add to our existing village.
