Dear Expectant Mother,
We admire the loving, courageous, and selfless decisions you’ve made during your adoption plan. We promise to do everything possible to ensure your baby knows a life of unconditional love and happiness. There is no way to fully describe our gratitude and appreciation for you. While we may not know each other yet, we are looking forward to meeting you and creating an open and honest relationship. We want to make sure we understand your hopes and needs.
We are thrilled with the opportunity to grow our family. Our family traditions, education, and experiences have taught us the importance of caring for others and appreciating all gifts in life. We promise a bilingual, bicultural home for your child to flourish in. Your child will grow up speaking and dreaming in Spanish and English while appreciating cultural diversity and pride. We will surround your child with a multicultural environment, traveling throughout the year to visit family in Mexico and discovering new places and adventures.
We are fully committed to the challenges that come with parenthood. We compliment each other and know that together we will raise a strong, caring, and compassionate child. We promise to honor your gift by providing a home full of love, education, travel, and experiences that will allow your child to grow and become the individual he or she is.
We are forever grateful for your considering us as prospective parents and giving us the chance to grow our family.
Michael is originally from Wisconsin and Gustavo from Mexico City. We met in Mexico City in 2006 while Michael was studying abroad. In 2008 we moved to Mexico City to embark on a new journey and be closer to family. Following years in Mexico and countless memories, we moved to the USA in 2014 and started the next chapter in our lives. We love traveling to this day! Gustavo is a second grade teacher at a Spanish-immersion school, and Michael works in the financial industry helping to improve risk management. Gustavo likes to do yoga and cook, while Michael enjoys reading and doing yard work. We love spending time outdoors: riding bikes, walking around the lakes, and enjoying the amazing parks all around the city. During the seemingly endless winter, we enjoy skiing, getting together with friends, and getting outdoors as much as possible.
Our home is a quaint, two-bedroom/two-bath home with a great backyard and patio. We love to host cookouts and campfires and enjoy the sunset during the summer. We live in a quiet neighborhood full of young families and couples. We can easily follow the infinite bike paths to the lakes and downtown and to visit friends. One of our favorite things is experiencing “big city” charms like touring Broadway shows, professional sports games, and music festivities while coming home to a calm neighborhood. We have a mini-poodle named Coco. She entered our family when Gustavo surprised Michael with a little white fluff ball and a red bow. Despite being 11 years old, she still acts like a puppy and loves to run around the backyard.
Our Extended Family
Family is an essential part of our life. We are fortunate to have amazing families that have supported us both individually and as a couple. Michael has a younger brother, who blessed us with a nephew in 2018, and extended family members that include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Gustavo comes from a large, traditional Mexican family, with two older sisters, one younger brother, six amazing nieces and nephews, and countless aunt, uncles, and cousins. Everyone is ecstatic to have a new member of the family!
We also have our family of friends who know the door is always open. The impromptu pozole dinners, Memorial Day cookouts, and Sunday dinners are amazing!
As a multicultural family, we’re lucky because we celebrate twice as many holidays and traditions! For the Fourth of July, we enjoy boating and playing board games at the cabin. For the Day of the Dead, we create a traditional Mexican altar and celebrate grandparents passed with homemade mole. Christmas is a special time of year because we see all extended family and celebrate the different traditions our families have. We enjoy traditional Swedish meatballs with Michael’s family and shrimp stew and apple salad when celebrating in Mexico with Gustavo’s.
What Led Us To Adoption
One of our biggest joys in life is memories from our childhoods: spending holidays with family, taking family vacations and knowing that there’s always someone to talk to and experience new things with. We want to create these kinds of memories with our own family. After exploring options over the past three years and talking with friends and co-workers who have adopted, we decided that adoption would be the best choice for us. We are excited to provide a loving home and start our family through the amazing gift of adoption!
