Dear Expectant Mother,
Thanks for taking time to get to know us a little bit. We are thrilled you are considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We know that this is a difficult and emotional journey and, if you choose us, we are looking forward to doing it together with you. We take a team approach to things around our house and we are ready to join your team. We look forward to getting to know you better and showing you all that we have prepared.
We value the opportunity to become parents and have always planned space for a precious child. If you choose us, know that your child will grow up in an environment where he or she is encouraged and supported to become his or her best self. We will always honor your choice to place your baby with us. Your child will grow up knowing that he or she is loved by many.
We met in 2005 when Jill was playing saxophone for a CD-release party and Sherri was in her second year as a doctor in residency. We fell in love and bought a house in a neighborhood of Kansas City for the duration of her residency. Sherri matched in a fellowship, which took us to Los Angeles for three years. While Sherri worked on her fellowship, Jill started working for Apple as a genius taking apart computers and fixing them. She can still fix almost anything electronic (television, clothes dryer - anything!). After Sherri’s fellowship, we came back “home” to the Kansas City area where Sherri is a doctor and Jill plays in big bands and teaches private music lessons. In 2014, we welcomed our son CJ, who has been the most amazing part of our lives in every way imaginable.
We live near an urban area and next to a great big park. We are close enough to walk or bike to the park so CJ can play on the playground. Our home was built in the 1920s, which means it has lots of character and it also means it provides Jill with plenty of fun projects like updating the sprinkler system to a computer that detects when it is going to rain. There is a backyard with a playset and plenty of grass for racing around. In the winter, we have our own sledding hill! We have an 11-year-old Vizsla who has been with us since she was a puppy. She is kind and great with CJ. We couldn’t ask for a better dog.
Our Extended Family
Jill was born and raised in northeast Kansas and much of her immediate family lives within 20 minutes of our house. Her parents, Jean and John, are both retired teachers and like to spend free time making plans with their siblings, who are mostly all here in town. Jean and John also love to spend time with their children and grandchildren. We are all close with Jill’s extended family. Her cousin Joslyn is the professional photographer who took almost all of our family photos for this profile.
Sherri’s parents live in northwest Louisiana. Sherri’s dad Jim was a preacher her whole life growing up and her mom Kay was the perfect preacher’s wife (making the bulletin and playing the piano during church). Sherri was hesitant to “come out” to them because of their strict religious views. However, when she did, her dad decided to give up preaching instead of her. Now we have a great relationship and get together at least 4-6 times per year. Jill is trying to find a good retirement property for them in Missouri somewhere so that when he retires they can live closer.
What Led Us To Adoption
We value being parents. It is central to our lives and something we weren’t sure we would get to do. We are so blessed to have CJ and are really looking forward to expanding our family even further. When attempts at a second pregnancy with a donor were not successful, we knew that something else was in store for us. We are positive that CJ will make a great big brother. We have always planned and hoped to have another child, and we have embarked on the path to adoption as a way to find our next child.
