Dear Expectant Mother,
With so many wonderful families to consider for your baby, we really appreciate you taking the time to learn a little bit more about us. We are committed to being thoughtful, strong, loving, and supportive to your child throughout their whole life, and we want you to know nothing could change that wish.
We picture teaching a child to play the piano next to the Christmas tree. We see hot summer days with swimming lessons, watermelon-eating at family reunions, and driving to early morning soccer games. But most of all, we recognize that this child will be their own person, and we look forward to embracing their dreams even more than our own.
Although it doesn’t seem possible, we already deeply love the child we will eventually raise. We are so excited for the possibilities ahead and ready for the responsibility. Although it seems understated, we sincerely thank you. Just reading this letter and considering us means that our family is one step closer to becoming a reality.
We both know how lucky we were to have found each other. Our friends brought us together one amazing spring night, and we have been inseparable ever since. We balance each other in ways that make both of us happier and stronger people. Currently, we call North Carolina home. We love time with family and friends, trips to the lake, college sports, and making improvements on the house. Both of us work in aspects of real estate: Tim owns a residential real estate firm, while Stephen owns his own commercial real estate firm and property management company. Our jobs give us flexibility and a great connection to the community. We consider ourselves to be active, family-focused, driven, and, most importantly, we strive to always be compassionate and loving. We are most excited for the opportunity to share our love of adventure, travel, and family meals with your child.
We live in a beautiful and expanded ranch home with a fenced-in backyard that our rescue lab, Preston, loves to explore. The neighborhood was the big draw for us. We belong to the country club two houses away, which has several pools, a restaurant, a playground, and lots of activities for kids. A fantastic new elementary school is only a block away, and there are wonderful greenways and parks throughout the area. We can also walk to lots of great shopping, dining, and the movies. We’re not sure we will ever want to move! We cannot wait for the sound of a child to fill our home and imagine the fun of blowing bubbles and our child playing with the neighborhood kids in our yard.
Our Extended Family
Family is sincerely the most important thing to both of us. Stephen grew up in Maryland, where his parents, sister, and lots of extended family still live. His father is a retired firefighter and his mother is a manager for Michael’s craft stores. We travel to see them multiple times a year and get together with extended family in Ocean City during the summers.
Tim grew up in North Carolina, where we live now. His parents, sister, and his brother and sister-in-law all live within twenty minutes of us, and we spend time with them regularly – family dinners, trips to their lake house, and community festivals. Tim’s mother is a retired pediatrician, so it’s certainly a great grandma to have around!
Both sets of families cannot wait for us to adopt! We welcomed our first niece in June, and she, too, would love to have a first cousin.
What Led Us To Adoption
Over the years, we have always hoped to expand our family beyond the two of us. Our extended family has a history of adoption, and as soon as we both knew parenthood was our path, adoption was the clear choice. Seeing firsthand the love and immense joy that adoption has brought to our family, only solidifies our choice. Both of our childhoods were filled with lots of siblings, cousins, and friends, and it’s tough for us to imagine our lives without the joy of a big family.
