Abbey & Massie

Family Type: Lesbian Couple
State we live in: Illinois

dear expectant mother

We can’t begin to understand what a mother is going through when considering adoption. All we can share is our perspective as someone who is adopted and let you know we would love for that miracle to continue with our family. We can’t wait to become parents, go on new adventures, and share our love with a tiny tot.

When Massie reflects on her adoption story, she can only describe it in one way. She calls it a double miracle. Massie’s birthmother was responsible for the first miracle as she made an incredibly difficult decision and went beyond simply the miracle of birth to give her so much more in life. The second miracle came from Massie’s adoptive mom. She gave Massie a family, friends, experiences, and opportunities, but mostly she made sure that Massie knew no matter what she was feeling or going through, she had someone who had her back and never needed to feel alone.

If we could have a chance to say one thing to Massie’s birthmother, we would tell her not a day goes by that we don’t think about how lucky we are. If you take nothing else from our profile, please know, as an expectant mother, you’re already the first part of your child’s double miracle, and if you would like to get to know us better, we would love the opportunity to be the second half of your child's double miracle.

About Us

Ten years ago, we met over grilled cheese sandwiches and have had adventures together ever since (both cheese related and not). We have been married over three years, and our love and respect for each other grows every day. Abbey is the kind of person who gets along with anyone. Her career has allowed her to share her passion of teamwork and life lessons through sports with children. In her free time, she enjoys family dinners and tennis with friends. Massie’s values are rooted in being a loyal friend and having a good work ethic. She is chatty and also loves to listen. She enjoys having a physical job to keep active. She spends as much time as possible outside and loves car rides around the city, oftentimes ending in ice cream. We attend equal amounts of sporting events, musicals, and concerts. Chores or dinner are often decided over a tennis match or basketball game.

Our Home & Pets

Our neighborhood is already home to lots of families with kids of all ages. One of our favorite things about the area we live in is how close we are to parks and good food. Our home is full of equal amounts of sports equipment and musical instruments, and we are eager to see which activities we will be cheering on our future child at. Our bookcase is filled with board games that we gather our family and friends together to play. We have two cats (that think they are dogs) who were raised around toddlers, and we promise to let them down easy when we explain they will no longer be the cutest members of the family once we adopt a baby.

Our Extended Family

We wouldn’t be who we are without our family. As we began our adoption journey, we were overwhelmed by the support from our family and close friends. They are just as excited as we are to start making memories with a baby girl or boy as active cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents.

Massie’s family is spread across the Midwest, so there are many opportunities for summer road trips as well as flying out to share holidays with both families. Abbey’s family is close by; her parents, sisters, grandma, and cousins are all just a 15- to 20-minute drive away!

We value being able to share birthdays, holidays, vacations, and everything in between with our family both near and far. Every Halloween, Abbey’s sister hosts a themed pumpkin carving and costume party. Abbey’s cousins in the Philippines even act as the judges for our pumpkin contest! One of our favorite parts of visiting Massie’s family for the holidays is playing board games after dinner until we are too tired to keep our eyes open. We both have vivid memories of our own family traditions and trips and can’t wait to do it all again with a little one!

What Led Us To Adoption

Starting a family is a priority for both of us. Why adoption? Have you heard of a double miracle? When Massie looks back on her life as an adopted child, she always thinks about how lucky she was to have had as many opportunities in life as she did. Adoption has a personal meaning for us and comes with a unique perspective. We appreciate the fact that our adopted child will always have someone to relate to, and we know no conversation or feeling will be something they ever have to go through alone. We both feel in our hearts that adoption is a gift of love, and we dream of sharing that gift with a child.
