dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to review our profile. We hope we have given you a small look into who we are, the type of parents we would be, and the life we might provide for your child. You now know a few things about us, and we feel we already know a bit about you too! While we cannot imagine the difficulty of this process and the emotion surrounding this decision, we do know you are a strong and selfless person willing to make an incredible sacrifice for your child. We would be so lucky to become parents to a child with those traits.

If we were to be chosen, we can promise you we will provide your child with a home filled with love, support, and laughter. We will teach them to treat others and themselves with kindness, acceptance, and respect, which are values we care tremendously about. We will never let your child forget the story of how we became a family, and we will always remind them of what a difficult but selfless act of love yours truly was.

No matter your choice, we are so happy you got to know us, even if only as a brief part of your journey. We are sending you and your child so much love and support.

About Us

We met while in graduate school in North Carolina. Anna is a clinical psychologist working with children with autism spectrum disorder, and Drew is a senior business intelligence analyst for a mortgage company. Drew is an amazing cook, loves to golf, and is a major music buff! Anna loves doing DIY home improvement projects and is a huge Taylor Swift fan. In our free time, we both enjoy exercising, spending time with our friends and family, concerts, comedy shows, baseball games, and spoiling our pets. Anna describes Drew as patient, generous, selfless, and laidback. Drew describes Anna as confident, empathetic, hardworking, absolutely hilarious, and definitely NOT laidback! Anna can be a bit shy, while Drew has never met a stranger. Everyone who knows us knows we are polar opposites but in a good way!

Our Home & Pets

We live in a two-story house in a family-oriented neighborhood in North Carolina. We belong to a local pool and golf club and are close to several dog parks, playgrounds, and kid-friendly activities and attractions. Our area has a performing arts center, life and science museum, minor and major league sports teams, and great schools (including several major universities). The best part of where we live is being just a few hours from both the beach and the mountains! We are pet parents to two dogs (Gus and Jerry), two cats (Adam and Steve), and one chinchilla (Gordon). The pups are both incredibly sweet, are full of energy, and love kids!

Our Extended Family

Anna’s family all live in North Carolina, about one hour away. Anna has one sister, and we are extremely close with her, her husband, and their three children (10-year-old boy, 7-year-old girl, 4-year-old girl). Drew and our brother-in-law golf together any chance they get. We plan most of our vacations together, love to host sleepovers with the kids, and are VIPs at every single birthday party, dance recital, sporting event, and school performance. Anna’s parents have a mountain house outside of NC, and since childhood, this has been a favorite vacation spot for our family. Some of our favorite family traditions include the holiday bakefest for Anna’s birthday, Fourth of July parties at Anna’s parents’ pool, Saturday “stay up late night,” and our Fantasy Football league.

Drew’s parents and his brother live in Florida, and his large extended family spreads all over the U.S. While we do not get to see them as often, both sides of our families like to go on trips together, and Drew’s family comes to NC every year for Thanksgiving, which has become the most anticipated holiday of the year!

What Led Us To Adoption

We decided we were ready to graduate from “aunt and uncle” to “mom and dad” after our one-year wedding anniversary. Having a child naturally or through IVF was not in the cards for us, but we have no doubt we will have a family of our own one day. While our journey to adoption has certainly been filled with ups and downs, it has also been a journey filled with support, hope, and, most importantly, lots of laughs! We were drawn to LifeLong Adoptions because of their dedication to helping LGBTQ+ families adopt, which is very important to us. We are the first of our friends and family to adopt, so we are excited to have our own special experience, completely unique to us.
