Charlie & Chris

Family Type: Gay Couple
State We live in: Michigan

dear expectant mother

Courageous. That is the word that comes to mind when we think of the sacrifice you would be making. For almost 20 years, we have wanted to start a family, but each time we get close, we fail. We would be eternally grateful if we were given the opportunity to start our own family. We can’t do that without your help.

Your love for your baby would continue on through many avenues. Our support system is very strong. Your child would be brought up with many forms of love coming at them from all around. Our church family has been with us from the beginning of our foster care journey. They have helped teach our foster children about joy, hope, faith, and love and would do the same for your child. Our Pride family has also been a pillar of love and support in our journey. Many friends and coworkers have encouraged us and given us positive encouragement as we navigate life in order to adopt. Our extended family has supported us from day 1 when it comes to showing the values of love and support.

Every night we would say to your child, “You are kind, you are smart, you are important, and you are loved.” Thank you so much for the opportunity to let us share our story with you.

About Us

We are both homegrown Michiganders. We met 19 years ago while singing karaoke. Music is a big part of our life, and we both love to sing. Although we got married in 2006 with all of our friends and family by our side, we legally got married in 2014 in Chicago. Chris loves working with kids and was a daycare teacher for many years; he is now working for a local school district as a before and after care specialist. Charlie works as a liaison for the government and has been with the government since 2014. We love musicals. Chris is always auditioning for different plays and musicals. He was most recently cast as Buddy the elf from the musical Elf. Charlie loves to travel and has most recently gone to Germany for work.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a historic house that was built in 1890. We live within walking distance of downtown and our church. We can walk outside and smell cereal cooking. Our school district is amazing and even has a “promise” where you can get college paid for if you go to our district. Charlie currently is the vice president of our school board. We have a very active LGBTQ+ pride organization we both have volunteered for as well as sat on their board. They have been extremely supportive of us. We have two dogs, Boq and Bastian. They are three and four years old. They love kids and have been with us since birth.

Our Extended Family

Family is very important to us both. They have been our support system our entire life. Chris has one brother and sister-in-law, three nieces, and one nephew. The oldest always spends a week with us in the summer for choir camp at our church. Chris’s mother lives two hours away, and we visit often.

Charlie has two brothers, one sister, and six nieces and nephews between them all. One brother lives in Mississippi, and we try to visit once a year. The others live nearby. Charlie’s parents live ten minutes from us, so we visit frequently.

Every year we host Thanksgiving at our house, and our family is encouraged to invite a friend who may not have a place to go for Thanksgiving. We are all very much a family that believes in helping others if we can. Throughout the year, we have sleepovers with our nieces and nephews one at a time so they each can have Uncle Charlie and Uncle Chris time.

What Led Us To Adoption

In our vows at our wedding in 2006, we both said we couldn’t wait to start a family and be parents. We started with an exchange student from Germany then had four foster children in hopes to adopt them. They ended up going back to their bio parents. We love being with our nieces and nephews and want to have a family of our own. Our love for children has reached out to our community, our church, and our family.
