dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We can never fully appreciate the weight of the decision you are making or how difficult this choice may be. All we can do is thank you for getting to know us a bit better and for considering us to care for your child.

It is hard to put into a few short paragraphs all of the things that make us us. We are fun, quirky, and highly passionate about a whole host of things that are not in this profile. We sing loudly and dance around the kitchen while we cook. We watch hours of home improvement shows (or British documentaries if John gets his way), and we sometimes have a gourmet meal one night but Domino's pizza the next night. We are not perfect, and we do not think we ever will be, but we are fortunate to be able to provide your child with a world full of love and support so they know they are free to be themselves in a world that can sometimes feel scary or overwhelming.

No doubt we are nervous and scared in anticipation of such a life-changing addition to our lives, but it pales in comparison to the choice you are making. Even if we are not the right family to carry on your love, we are truly humbled to even be considered, and we send you all of our love and admiration as you navigate your own journey.

- C & J

We both have a lot of love and nurturing to give our future child, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by the love and support of both of our families as we navigate this scary but wildly exciting path.

About Us

Charlie grew up on the East Coast and, after completing college, moved to California to attend law school, where he is now a partner in a family law firm. John was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and, after spending time in Michigan for graduate school, moved to California, where he works in commercial architecture. We met over six years ago, and we were married in 2022 surrounded by our family and friends, who join in our excitement to start our next chapter and to embark on this journey together! In our spare time, we enjoy evenings with our two dogs, Wellington and Bailey, and weekends hiking the beautiful California coast, golfing, playing tennis, or trying new recipes and having friends and family over for dinner. We are both avid readers and love to see the world, traveling whenever we are able and learning as much about a new location as we can!

Our Home & Pets

We live in a quiet and safe part of our city, filled with young families and adjacent to beautiful green spaces, waterways, dog parks, and a playground. Our two dogs, Wellington (the world’s friendliest golden retriever) and Bailey (a rescue terrier who does not believe in personal space!) love how close we are to our neighborhood’s many green spaces and to the nearby water, where Wellington is always eager to go for a swim! Both dogs have been surrounded by children their whole lives and love any opportunity to give as many kisses as possible! We feel lucky to be in a city with world-class amenities and look forward to taking our future child to the ballet or to a basketball or baseball game.

Our Extended Family

Charlie is the youngest of four siblings. He has two nephews, ages 16 and 11, and a four-year-old niece. In addition to his parents, siblings, and niece and nephews, Charlie has nearly 20 cousins and remains extremely close to his 90-year-old grandmother, who can still to this day light up a dance floor! Charlie’s favorite traditions with his family are to fly home for Christmas and change into matching PJs before singing Christmas carols, looking for the old Rudolph claymation film, and figuring out what to do with the Elf on the Shelf!

John grew up as the youngest (by one hour) of five siblings. John’s parents were one of six and eight siblings, and they met in high school and remained married until his father passed away a few years ago. John has more than 22 aunts and uncles and over 50 cousins. John’s own siblings now have a total of five children, with two more on the way! We are both excited to raise a child with cousins of the same age, something we both were fortunate to experience. John’s favorite tradition is helping to make beef wellington at Christmas and clam chowder on Christmas Eve!

What Led Us To Adoption

We were both fortunate to grow up in large families, surrounded by siblings and many cousins running around at all holidays and family gatherings! From the start of our relationship, we always knew we wanted to start a family of our own, and after we married, it only seemed natural that our next step would be adoption. We both have a lot of love and nurturing to give our future child, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by the love and support of both of our families as we navigate this scary but wildly exciting path.
