dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are so grateful you are considering us as adoptive parents and understand how challenging this decision is for you. We can’t imagine the different emotions you are feeling during this process, but we can assure you your child will grow up with two loving parents who will devote themselves to your child’s happiness and wellbeing if you choose us. Considering us is truly a blessing, and we hope our profile gives you a glimpse into our lives and the possible future home of your child.

We have been talking about having children since we met, and there are already so many things we are looking forward to doing with your child, like spending weekends on the beach, going hiking and playing in the creek, carving pumpkins on Halloween, and jumping in the giant leaf piles in our backyard. Between our families and friends, we have a village around us, which means your child will be supported in everything they do. Their future grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are already excited to introduce family traditions, like cooking pizzelles on the holidays and making traditional Venezuelan hallacas over Christmas.

While this decision does not come easily, we both promise to support you every step of the way and are looking forward to answering any questions you have for us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your consideration.

All the best,
Conor and Dan

About Us

Conor is a therapist, and Daniel is a critical care doctor and a pilot. We both love working directly with people and find joy in helping others. Conor is from Philadelphia and Dan is from Venezuela, so we are planning to raise our child to be bilingual. We met through mutual friends, and one of our first dates was Dan taking Conor up in a small airplane for an air tour around New York City. We both love to stay active and often spend our free time hiking. Conor enjoys working on projects around the house, and Dan finds pleasure in enjoying the nice weather and flying. We love cooking dinner together and trying out new recipes or playing a new board game. Spending time with our families is very important to us, and we can't wait to add a new family member into the mix.

Our Home

Our home is in a quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors and a big yard to play and have fun in. We can’t wait for your baby to experience sitting out back in the hammock with us and running around on a hot summer night trying to catch lightning bugs. When we walk around our favorite park next door and see children running around on the playground, we find ourselves talking about our excitement to take our child there in the future. We have a great hill in the backyard to go sledding down when it snows and a big front yard to build a snowman. We live in an excellent school district with a wonderful sense of community and know your child will have countless activities to keep them busy and happy.

Our Extended Family

Conor comes from a very close family with three siblings and parents who all live in the area. One of our favorite traditions is going to his parents’ for holidays. The minute we walk in the door, we can hear the merry music playing, smell the warm cookies baking, and hear the laughter of Conor’s parents and siblings sitting around the tree.

Dan’s family lives in Florida, so every few months, we get to travel there for a visit. We get to experience the traditional Venezuelan and Jewish food Dan grew up with. We always look forward to going to the beach and hanging out with Dan’s parents, brother, and sister-in-law over coffee and homemade desserts, where we can talk for hours and listen to Dan’s brother’s endless supply of jokes.

We are also fortunate to have close relationships with our cousins. We see our cousins and aunts and uncles just as much as we see our immediate families, and everybody is so excited to welcome a new family member into the mix. We are also very excited for your baby to be a part of our yearly Thanksgiving music videos, which tend to be the highlight of our cousin get-togethers!

What Led Us To Adoption

Both of us have always wanted kids, so deciding to adopt came naturally. From the moment we met, we discussed our desire to start a family, and it was one of the reasons we fell in love. When Conor’s cousin gave birth, we got to spend a lot of time with their newborn, and playing with him on the beach in the sand for the first time made it clear we were ready to start our own family. Our decision wasn’t whether or not to have children; it was how we were going to go about this. We both decided adoption was the most loving, practical path to have children, and we have been able to experience the love and joy our own family members have experienced through their adoption journeys. When we told our family and friends we were starting the adoption process, they told us they always knew we would be dads and it wasn’t surprising at all.
