Family Type: Single Heterosexual Woman
State I live in: Texas

dear expectant mother

Even considering placing this baby for adoption is impossibly hard. It shows strength, selflessness, and generosity—characteristics I hope to nurture in this child, if you place them with me. It also means you love this baby and want them to have a bright and happy future. That's what I want too. I want to love this baby throughout his or her bright and happy life.

I have talked openly about my desire to adopt with friends and family for years. They are the strong network of love and support necessary to help me raise this child as a single mom. I will not be doing this alone. This baby will be loved by an entire family. I spent the past several years examining myself and my abilities. My plan to adopt has driven some of my major life decisions: buying a house, changing jobs to ensure flexibility, and even beginning therapy to ensure I am emotionally prepared to balance my own needs and those of a child. This child is, and will always be, my highest priority.

I know things will not always be easy and part of me is bracing for the teenage years, but I am ready. You have made this baby perfect, and I take the responsibility of raising him or her to be their best self very seriously.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and I hope to get to know you more as well. Trust is a huge part of this process. We will be in this together.

Sincerely,
Daryn

About Me

I’m Daryn. I am a warm, funny, compassionate, and hard-working single woman with strong values and a willingness to learn something new. I’ve done martial arts since I was a kid; now I teach adapted karate for kids with special needs. My other hobbies include reading, gardening, and traveling. At heart, I’m a homebody, but I’m always happy to go out with or travel to see my friends and family out of state. We have explored some really cool places and made wonderful memories. Travel and experiences are my favorite teachers, and I hope to share that with this child. I am a speech therapist at a non-profit; it's my dream job. I actually went to school to be a teacher, which I loved, but I was introduced to speech therapy before graduating. It was everything I loved about teaching and more! It was the way I wanted to make an impact.

My Home & Pets

I live in a great house with a large, fenced yard in an area surrounded by greenbelts, creeks, and walking/biking trails. Our neighborhood pool and playground are right at the end of my street. Most of the time, you can find me in the backyard, whether it’s relaxing on the patio, hanging in a hammock, or working in the garden. Callie is my nine-year-old adventure buddy I rescued as a puppy. She has plenty of sass and personality but loves little kids and is very gentle. My godsons talk to her each time we video chat and takes her for walks when they visit. She is excited to have a brother or sister.

My Extended Family

My family is very important to me. I am an only child but have a very large, close-knit extended family. My parents are excited to be grandparents. They are still married and live just 15 minutes away from my house. There are MANY aunts, uncles, and cousins who are all eager to welcome this child into our family.

I am blessed with a strong friend group to make me laugh and lift me up. Even if they live across the country, my best friends are amazing, drop-everything-and-come-running people. They enrich my life as my chosen family.

With a family as big as ours, there are plenty of traditions. We celebrate holidays together, often in the country, where we can focus on food, family, and fun. Christmas Eve we all have dinner dressed in our pajamas and swap presents. My cousins and I do very competitive Easter egg hunts, and we plan a yearly trip that is the highlight of my year. But my favorite traditions are the simple ones: cooking Thanksgiving recipes with my grandmother, playing card games with cousins and aunts, fishing with my dad, and watching sunsets in memory of my grandfather. I can't wait to share these traditions and create new ones with this child.

What Led Me To Adoption

I love kids, and I've always wanted to be a mom. Nothing brings me joy like being a godmother, aunt, and cousin to the kids in my life, but I am ready to be a mom with a child of my own. Through my work, I've seen a lot of different families and how they interact with their kids. Some have been wonderful, engaged, and caring; others have taken care of their children, but there is little nurturing or encouragement. I realized this is the difference between being a “parent” and a “guardian,” and I’ve had a chance to reflect on the type of parent I want to be. In particular, I have worked with several foster families that directly inspired me to begin this journey.
