Family Type: Gay Couple
State We live in: Arizona

dear expectant mother

Where do we even begin? Another profile to review, possibly still unsure if adoption is the right choice for you, and all the emotion and contemplation involved in deciding if someone else is worthy of raising your child… What an incredible challenge, and we respect you and whatever decision you ultimately make! We won’t pretend to know what you are going through during this process. We are, however, incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share a little about us and hopefully reassure you that we care immensely, not only for you as an expectant mother but for your incredible baby and the amazing life he or she will live!

We have always wanted to be parents and are both 100% momma’s boys. As a same-sex couple, we have struggled to reconcile parenting children knowing just how much our mothers mean to us and have shaped who we are. When we decided adoption was for us, there was no doubt we would be happy proceeding with an open adoption, should the mother want to stay connected. All of our paths in life are different. We have certainly had our struggles and have also experienced immeasurable joy. We are the men we are today, in part, because of our incredible mothers. We say that to hopefully convey to you that YOU matter. You matter to your family, you matter to your unborn child, and you absolutely matter to us!

We are full of love and know it is definitely part of God’s plan for us to be parents. We are praying for you, we are praying for your baby, and we are so grateful for you taking the time to read our profile to consider us being a part of your and your child’s life!

You matter to your family, you matter to your unborn child, and you absolutely matter to us!

About Us

We were set up on a blind date in 2004 through a mutual friend and were both serving in the U.S. Air Force. Our shared values, faith, and dedication to our respective families bonded us for life, and we have been together ever since! After 18 years together, and seven years married, we have learned to be considerate and respectful of one another. We are complete opposites when it comes to personality type. However, we have learned to use this to our advantage and support each other in our unique differences. Matt is much more spontaneous and goes with the flow, while Dave is very structured and routine. Professionally, Matt is a human resources director for a school district, and Dave is a government mortgage underwriter. We enjoy our chosen careers, and we always find time to enjoy each other and our family and to explore the outdoors as much as possible.

Our Home & Pets

Although we have lived and traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad, we call Arizona home. We were lucky to purchase a home in the same neighborhood as most of our family. We are within three miles of 25 family members, ranging from parents and grandparents to siblings and nieces and nephews, so we have a lot of support around us! The neighborhood is known for its family appeal with multiple parks, playgrounds, a public pool, sports venues/programs for children, and one of the highest-rated school districts in the state. Our place is a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath attached townhouse with one of the rooms converted to an office since Dave works from home. We have a precious 14-year-old female min-pin named Seyo and a cute little male min-pin puppy on the way, Jim B.

Our Extended Family

Family and traditions are everything to us! Although our families are very different in size, we seriously couldn’t be more alike. Family is one of the most critical elements to our relationship. We all laugh, love, cry, support, lift up, get along with (and sometimes don’t), learn from, and care for each other in ways that words can’t describe. We LOVE each other and truly don’t see each other’s family as “my family” and “his family.” We are ONE family and are truly blessed to have each other. Combined, we have six siblings, 28 cousins, and 18 nieces and nephews (ranging from three months to 24 years old). We each have one grandmother left and both of our parents…fortunately.

Our family is our life, and we enjoy spending as much time together as humanly possible, although at times, we certainly appreciate a break for ourselves. To put it into perspective, the only month out of the year there isn’t a birthday party or holiday is the month of June (and yes, we all get together every time)! We are forever grateful for all the support we have from our family. They are incredible people and have all gone through their own unique challenges in life. We truly value learning from each other’s successes and failures and most certainly believe in supporting each other in raising our own families.

What Led Us To Adoption

We were only 21 years old when we met, but we always knew we wanted to be parents. Unfortunately, we were in the military under the strict “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy, so just being together was complicated. In late 2007 we decided to give up our military careers to be together and grow our own family. Transitioning from military to civilian life was far more challenging than we anticipated. Our aspirations of growing our family had to be put on hold until we felt we could truly support a child emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Every decision we have made since then has led us to a place where we are now confident we can truly provide for a child and support them in their own unique journey.
