Destiny & Rachel

Family Type: Lesbian Couple
State We live in: Washington

dear expectant mother

Deciding to expand our family was an easy decision for us to make. However, we know the decision you have in front of you is completely the opposite.

We liked when people would tell us that they rescued animals because we’d jokingly say, well we rescue people, but that isn't true. The real superhero is you. The hard work, the difficult decision, is the one that you are making. So, thank you! Thank you for being a superhero, thank you for rescuing us. We know we would not be able to have this life or our family without your sacrifice.

While we cannot fully understand how difficult it must be to make this decision, we want you to know that we do not take it lightly. We will never take your love for granted. We have so much respect for you and are inspired by the amount of courage and bravery you are expressing in such a gracious act of love.

We are extremely grateful that you are taking the time to read this letter and for your consideration in making us a part of your family. Coming from a “Modern Family,” full of a variety of personalities, we are so excited for the chance to add to it. We really appreciate how a family comes together in the most unexpected ways.

With our heartfelt gratitude,
Destiny & Rachel

We know we would not be able to have this life or our family without your sacrifice.

About Us

As a family, we love to laugh, swim, play board games, spend time with loved ones, and travel. Cooking is Rachel’s passion. If it were possible, she would feed everyone in the neighborhood. In addition, she loves to grow vegetables and herbs even though they rarely make it to the dinner table before our son eats them from the garden. Destiny is both a nerd and creative. After years as a photographer, she looks at the world differently than most, appreciating things that many people miss. She finds the most peace in monthly budgeting for the family. Our son loves to entertain us by playing his guitar or drums at full volume or watching us build up his Legos just to knock them down! If we took a vote, tickle fights and family movie nights are our jam.

Our Home

We live in a newly built neighborhood in the heart of a small mountain town, and we’re able to see a different mountain from every window in our home. Our neighborhood is the kind of place where you dream of raising children. It has a mix of races, cultures, ages, and backgrounds. Most decorate for the major holidays, and we even do Fourth of July bike/wagon parades, movie nights in the park, and food trucks during the summer. We have a top-notch school district, libraries, and the best sports and aquatic and activity centers. Twenty minutes north, we can ski, and thirty minutes south, we can play on the beach or in a metropolitan city.

Our Extended Family

We have a huge and beautiful blended family of different mixes of Black, Caucasian, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Native Americans, and all age ranges are covered, from babies to seniors.

Our favorite gatherings are Thanksgiving and Christmas! We love to cram as many family members as possible into our home to cook, watch football, and play games together. Destiny’s side of the family is close by, allowing us to get together often for birthday parties, our annual Father’s Day BBQ in the park, or just picking up nieces and nephews to join us and our son at a family fun center or the zoo. Rachel’s side of the family lives on the East Coast, so we video call with them weekly. This also allows us to travel to explore and expand our little guy’s world.

Our Adoption Story

Adoption was always the plan for us. We both come from beautiful, blended families and knew it was the way to go. We strongly believe family is not just what you were born into but also those you choose or those that choose you. When the door to the hospital room opened and we laid eyes on our son, it was love at first sight. He and his birthmom were meant to be family, and the time has come to extend our love and our family. Our little is a love bug and so excited about being the world’s best big brother!
