dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We’re extremely grateful for you regardless of whether or not you choose us to raise your child. We cannot imagine how difficult this experience is for you. We hope you will feel at ease with us, and we will do everything in our power to love and cherish your baby!
Our journey has led us through tough times, and we’ve learned from each other what the depth of family means. We wouldn’t trade it for anything. Dust couldn’t imagine not being a dad now, and it’s honestly the best part of every day. Dom wants to share the experience she had with her sister growing up, and we know Red will be the greatest older sister you could imagine. (She’s super excited too.)

If you choose us, your child will be joining a deeply loving home and will be a part of a neighborhood, friends, and family who are all eager to play with, teach, and love your baby. We’ve been together since Dust was 17 and Dom was 15; we’ve grown up together, fighting the fights that need fighting to create a stable and warm home. We promise to love and care for your kiddo with everything we have and will provide them all things they’ll need to be successful and happy physically and emotionally.

Thank you so much for providing us the chance to find and expand our family and to go on this adventure together.

With gratitude,
Dust and Dom

If you choose us, your child will be joining a deeply loving home and will be a part of a neighborhood, friends, and family who are all eager to play with, teach, and love your baby.

About Us

We are high school sweethearts. Dustin is a director of product development for an architectural product manufacturer, and Dominique is a stay-at-home mom. Dust is a maker at heart and enjoys building at all scales at both work and home. He enjoys building toys for Scarlett (Red) either out of Legos or building materials, and loves watercoloring, crafting, and drawing. Dom enjoys reading, cooking, singing Disney songs with (or without) Red, and crafting with Red. We usually spend evenings outside watching her play with the neighborhood kids when we’re not taking her to gymnastics and ice skating. We are constantly going on hikes and spending as much time in nature as we can (Red is currently very into PokemonGO!) and love to travel whenever possible. We recently moved a bit farther out of the city to be closer to trails and to have some space to play both indoors and out.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is a four-bedroom, three-bath, two-story house with a finished basement, which we’ve furnished as a game space complete with air hockey and skeeball. The street has thirteen kids of various ages living within five houses of us in each direction, along with some stay-at-home college students. The neighbors themselves genuinely make up the nicest community we’ve ever been a part of, and we all hang out together. Our dog, Mattie, is a two-year-old female silver Labrador and sleeps with Red in addition to being her main playmate in the house. Red is on the shy side and has an incredible ability to make sure everyone is included in play and also shares our love of making.

Our Extended Family

We’re a small but very close family. We celebrate all the major holidays and birthdays with gusto! We usually plan events with Dust’s brother Ehren or Dom’s sister Cassie and her family for the bigger holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Halloween is Dust’s favorite holiday, and in years past, he’s made the entire family their own Ghostbuster Proton Packs; Dom helps make sure all the events are coordinated. Dom’s favorite holiday is Christmas. She loves decorating the house (inside and out) and making Christmas cookies as a family. We also take care in making sure Santa gets Red things that really could be made in a toy shop.

Since we grew up in California but now live in Illinois, having our family visit throughout the year is a regular event (mostly Red’s grandmas), and we try to make it back to California every two years or so.

What Led Us To Adoption

We had Red after we both completed college, and it took us a while to get pregnant. She was ultimately born three months premature. (Her name, Scarlett, came from her skin color. She was so jaundiced that she was nearly crimson). She’s super healthy now, but the experience took a bit to recover from emotionally. About two years ago we started trying again but discovered we’d have more potential complications. We’ve always loved the idea of adoption since we love the idea of finding your family, so here we are. We couldn’t be more excited! Our extended family and friends are equally excited about us having another little one.
