dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

If you are reading this letter, it means you are facing one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make. Our hearts go out to you. We want what is best for you and your baby, and whatever you decide, we wish for you a deep-seated knowing that you have made the right decision. Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and consider us as parents for your child. Please know that if you choose us, we will always think well of you and speak well of you. Your child will grow up knowing how much you love them and that you made an incredibly tough and honorable decision.

In our home, your child will be welcome to express any emotion, and we in turn will listen, validate, comfort, and support them. We will encourage your child to be who they truly are, and we can’t wait to see who they turn out to be. We will ensure your child receives a great education as well as guidance and skills to meet life’s challenges with confidence and competence. We believe parenting is a life-long commitment and will be there for your child for the rest of our lives.

We are so excited to welcome a child into our family. We can’t wait for a home full of books and toys, bedtime stories, walks to the park and playgrounds, day trips to the beach, family vacations, tiny Halloween costumes, and Christmas excitement!

We look forward to getting to know you and hearing what is important to you for your child’s upbringing and future.

Yours truly,
Emily and Dorota

We believe parenting is a life-long commitment and will be there for your child for the rest of our lives.

About Us

Emily is altruistic, intelligent, and insightful. Her kindness and dedication are most apparent when she’s tending to Russell, a sweet, intellectually disabled senior she has taken care of for ten years. She’s a licensed clinical social worker starting a part-time practice but has largely left her schedule open for parenting. Dorota is a creative Jane-of-all-trades. She seems quiet at first, but once you get to know her, she shows her playful side. She is a researcher studying veteran homelessness. We feel very lucky to have found each other. We both love stargazing and gardening. Emily enjoys yoga, hiking, and knitting. Dorota likes home improvement and LEGOs. We both enjoy sitting on the porch in the morning, drinking tea, and watching butterflies and hummingbirds in the garden. In the afternoon, we like to catch up with the neighbors, harvest vegetables, or do jigsaw puzzles or arts and crafts with Russell.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a three-story home on a beautiful tree-lined street on the outskirts of a big city. The downtown is rich with arts and culture, and yet our front door is just steps from a vast 2,000-acre park, giving us the best of both city and country. Our neighborhood is home to countless families with young children and is walkable to five playgrounds as well as a farmers’ market and many restaurants and small shops. We joke that we are the Brady Bunch of cats: Emily brought three boy cats to the relationship, and Dorota brought two girl cats. We also have a 31-year-old turtle!

Our Extended Family

Emily’s family lives mostly on the East Coast. She is in touch with her parents every day, and they are so excited to be grandparents! A retired first grade teacher, her mom is already crocheting stuffed animals and even started a library of her favorite children’s books. If her sports fan dad has any say, the baby will probably learn to throw a ball before he or she can walk! She has one sister and considers her two best friends sisters as well. She has five cousins on her mom’s side she is very close to and so many on her dad’s side that she has lost count!

Dorota’s parents and older brother live nearby, and they get together often for birthdays, holidays, and family dinners. Her younger sister, her husband, and their two boys live all the way in Alaska. We talk to them often over video, and they’re coming to visit next month. Dorota’s brother and his partner are also hoping to adopt, and her parents are looking forward to having a grandkid or two a little closer to home.

What Led Us To Adoption

After years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, we grieved our losses and set our sights on the future. We have several friends who have adopted children as well as friends who were adopted as children themselves. As with anything in life, there were bumps in the road, but for the most part, adoption has been a wonderful experience for those we know. We believe in chosen family and know that familial bonds are not determined only by biology but also by love and the commitments we make to one another. We feel lucky to have met each other and will feel luckier still to bring a baby into our lives. We will be forever grateful to the mom who gave us the greatest of gifts.
