dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We can only imagine the emotions you must be feeling as you are contemplating making such a profound decision for both yourself and your baby. Your strength and courage in considering adoption speak volumes about the love you have for your child. It's not lost on us how difficult this choice would be, and we want you to know we admire and respect you immensely for your selflessness.

As a biracial gay couple, we understand the importance of diversity and inclusion. We believe every child deserves to grow up in an environment that celebrates and embraces their unique identity. Your child will be surrounded by not only the love of two fathers but also by a rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and experiences. We are committed to creating a home where differences are celebrated and your child feels proud of who they are.

We are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to potentially be parents, and we promise to cherish and nurture your baby with all the love in our hearts. We want you to feel assured that if you choose us, your baby will be raised in a home filled with love, acceptance, and joy. Our hearts are already overflowing with love for the precious soul we hope to welcome into our lives. Thank you for considering us as potential parents for your baby.

With deepest gratitude and admiration,
Phillip and Hugo

About Us

Hello! We are Phillip and Hugo, and we live in Pennsylvania. Hugo has been a middle school math teacher for the past decade, and Phillip creates organizational behavior change plans for an energy solutions company that retrofits existing buildings with sustainable infrastructure. We are also both professional musicians; Phillip plays the piano and Hugo the violin. When we are not spending time with our friends, we are traveling between Mexico and Germany to visit our extended families. Hugo is an incredible cartoonist and enjoys drawing and playing video games, while Phillip spends his time gardening and cooking. Our shared passion is dancing to Latin music, like salsa, merengue, and bachata. Both of us are very social and often have friends over for dinner and games.

Our Home

We live in a beautiful neighborhood in Pennsylvania. Our favorite part about where we live is our proximity to the many things that bring us joy and make life balanced. Phillip has a community garden that is just a block from our house. He is both a wizard in the garden and in the kitchen and cooks everything from scratch. The city’s best outdoor pool, the zoo, and a giant park are within a short bike ride from our doorstep. Our house is a spacious four-bedroom and two-bath home and acts as a focal point for friends and family, who are often at our house for celebrations, dinners, and game nights.

Our Extended Family

Phillip grew up in a bilingual and bicultural household. He was born in Germany and moved to the U.S. to live on his dad’s family farm to be closer to his 13 cousins and four aunts and uncles. Growing up, his family just spoke German at home, and every two years, his mom would take them to Germany for the summer. We would live with his cousins and grandparents and participate in school, church, and track and field competitions. He is very close with his brother and parents and enjoys babysitting his nephew.

Hugo was born in Mexico and moved to the U.S. with his family at age 11. His parents, three siblings, and seven nieces and nephews, as well as countless aunts, uncles, and cousins, live in northern Indiana. We visit often to attend weddings, quinceaneras, and familial and community celebrations. It’s always a party! At family celebrations, you will find 20 to 30 children playing together and parents dancing until the wee hours of the morning.

Besides our deep family connections, we also have an incredible chosen family at home. We often hang out to play card games in the evenings, watch shows together, or hang out in the park to play croquet and make hand-churned ice cream.

What Led Us To Adoption

When we were dating, one of the things that drew us to each other was our love for family and the desire to perhaps someday care for a child of our own. Both of us come from large family systems that have made us appreciate the importance of community and familial support. As first-generation Americans (both of us immigrated to the U.S. as children), our family systems here in the U.S. are composed of blood relatives and chosen family. This makes us excited to adopt because we know any child joining our family would be welcomed, loved, and supported by an extensive network of caring individuals.
