dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to look over our profile. We want you to know you could be the answer to something we have dreamed of since we were just teens. Please know our previous experience as parents taught us to make every moment special, and we will undoubtedly share that same magic with your baby.

Bedtime would never go without a lullaby and a book, even if it’s the same book we’ve read 586 times. Your baby will know every day that they are loved by us and that they came from a strong and admirable mother who also loved them more than words could express. We envision lots of fun summer trips that involve jumping into a pool, ordering pizza for dinner, and taking silly photos to look at years from now and smile at. We vow to hold late-night dance parties as a family that would be cringey if anyone else saw them, but they’ll make us laugh until our bellies hurt.

Your baby will be brought up knowing how to respect themselves and others as they navigate this world and will always know they can come to us if they need someone to talk to. Thank you again for considering us, and know that we already think the world of you.

We knew what types of parents we wanted to be, and we learned that biological or not, we have so much love to give a child.

About Us

We are high school sweethearts who were so fortunate to find each other so early in life. We both are each other’s best friend and do everything together. We even work together at the same high school we attended! We often like to think of ourselves as the real-life version of Carl and Ellie from Pixar’s Up. We have been together for over 18 years of love and laughter. In our spare time, you can usually find us cuddled up on the couch with our animals watching a movie or with friends playing board games. Erik is patient, a self-titled nerd, and the kindest person ever. Jamie Jo is helpful, loving, and always smiling. We have a lot of love to give and can’t wait to share it with you and your baby!

Our Home & Pets

Our home is our favorite place to be. We have a two-story, four-bedroom house in the city where we both work. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac that is quiet and occasionally has deer wander through it. We have a one-year-old golden retriever named Pudge who we absolutely adore and is wonderful with children. Pudge loves his older cat sister, Mocha, and doesn’t quite understand why she isn't a dog like he is. We got Mocha when we were in college together 13 years ago, and she has snuggled us every day since we brought her home. We have an amazing nursery ready to go, but the best part about it has got to be the diverse collection of children’s books to read at bedtime.

Our Extended Family

We are so grateful to have the families we have. Erik comes from a large family that hosts fun holiday parties and reunions every year. He has an older brother and sister whom he is close to. His parents are supportive and loving, and Erik has gained so many great parenting tips from them. There are many little cousins who are ready and waiting to play with your baby, and they can’t wait until they arrive.

Jamie Jo grew up on a farm, and to this day, she enjoys working outside on it with her dad. He plants pumpkins, corn, and so many other vegetables. She has an older brother who shares her love of movies and books. Some of Jamie Jo’s favorite summer activities include eating her dad’s BBQ chicken and helping in the garden. Jamie Jo already knows this new member of the family will love planting corn every spring and eating it in the fall.

What Led Us To Adoption

After a few years of failed fertility treatments and many doctor appointments, we decided to take a break from trying to have a child biologically. We then became foster parents to a little girl for almost three years before she returned home to her biological parents. Even though we didn’t get the result we’d hoped for in fostering, we learned so many amazing things. We knew what types of parents we wanted to be, and we learned that biological or not, we have so much love to give a child. After a while of waiting and letting our hearts settle, we decided we were ready to begin the adoption process.
