dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We must first acknowledge your bravery, love, and courage for taking this step. The decision you are making is a selfless one and should not be taken lightly.

Since we were both children, we have dreamed of becoming fathers. We want to reassure you we will be alongside you throughout this entire journey at any level you’re comfortable with, and we are beyond grateful to welcome your child into our home, should you choose us.

As black queer men, there were a lot of things we both did not have the opportunity to see growing up. The experiences we lacked have given us a different perspective of life, and we believe these new strengths will allow us to offer your child a foundational balance of love, acceptance, and positivity. We believe our faith has led us to you and would be so blessed to become fathers to your baby. We cannot wait to share our love for music, the arts, reading, and family traditions with your little one and create valuable memories that will help shape them into a person who offers the world greatness and positive change.

Thank you for your time and considering us as adoptive fathers to your baby. Between us, we have a love for you and your baby so vast there would be no way to escape it. We promise your baby an abundance of joy, safety, and support. We look forward to meeting you and your little one.

About Us

We met by happenstance, what we both like to call a “special delivery.” Corddarryl had begun working as a letter carrier and was assigned to deliver mail at Jeffrey’s apartment complex. Upon passing each other by the indoor mailboxes, we caught each other’s eyes and gave back flirtatious smiles. Jeffrey headed toward his apartment and had a gut feeling to go back and make an introduction, a decision that changed both of our lives for the better! After a few laughs, we exchanged social media handles and phone numbers. That first night, we talked on the phone for hours. After dating, we became official in 2016, were engaged during the pandemic in 2020 (Jeffrey’s 30th birthday), and were officially married in May 2022. Jeffrey works as a celebrity and event photographer. We enjoy cooking, family/puppy time, listening to soul classics, and traveling to wherever there is water.

Our Home & Pets

In the summer of 2021, we purchased our first home together. We live in a new subdivision that is convenient to all things related to food, entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Our neighborhood comes complete with two playgrounds and a saltwater pool and is minutes away from various art museums, world-class theater performances, and a diverse cultural restaurant collection. Our neighborhood is family friendly; in fact, five of our close neighbors have all given birth in the last eight months! There must be something in the water! We are located by walking trails, and we enjoy small business shopping with local farmers at the weekly farmers market. We love taking morning walks before work and the evenings with our Yorkie-Poo, Vintage Milan.

Our Extended Family

There is never a dull moment with our families. Every holiday and get-together serves as a family reunion filled with Down South hospitality, good food, and card games that can go on for hours. Over the last few years, we have developed a higher sense of gratitude as it comes to what and how much family means to us. We have lost so many family members since being together, but we are all resilient as a unit.

Between us both, we have over 35 first cousins. We are both close with our siblings and consider them our best friends. Our grandmothers were both leading matriarchs in our families, and we credit them both for our love of family and quite a few of our show-stopping recipes at Thanksgiving.

The village we have built for ourselves of blood relatives and friends is a mighty one. They love us without judgment and allow us to show up as our authentic selves. This attribute of our family unit is highly important to us, and we want to teach our children the same values.

What Led Us To Adoption

Since the very beginning of our relationship, we knew we wanted to become dads. The way we care for each other in the smallest and biggest of ways helps us to reaffirm each other and helped solidify our goal to become fathers. We both come from large families, and at every family function, you will never fail to see us without babies in our arms. Between us both, we have four godchildren, whose lives we actively participate in, from attending recitals, Marvel movie premieres, and annual Easter egg hunts. Growing up, we never saw real examples of black queer fathers, and we are firm believers that representation matters.
