dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Your selfless consideration of entrusting us with the life of your little one is a choice we will be eternally grateful for and promise to pay forward with love, laughter, and positive life experiences that will ensure your baby knows their value in the world and that they have the resiliency and support of family to endure and thrive while being nothing more than his or herself.

If you choose us, we promise to be present parents. That’s not a hard promise to keep as it’s all that we want to be. We also promise to introduce your baby to the world through hikes in the forest, tastes of unique spices from our different cultures, and books and movies we will talk about together so we can relay our empathy about the experiences of others in the world. We will listen to your baby’s needs and respect their voice with validation and care. Lastly, we will always let them know that dreams do come true and because of the incredibly difficult choice you made, they are in our lives. Thank you so much for your consideration!

We will always let them know that dreams do come true and because of the incredibly difficult choice you made, they are in our lives.

About Us

We met in 2013 in Colorado and have shared years of adventures together, from visiting Latin America in 2016, then Italy in 2017, to getting married in 2019 in the living room of our first home we purchased together. We have enjoyed our time together while preparing ourselves for what we knew would be the most important adventure of our lives: adoption! Mike has a master’s degree in business and works as a senior manager in corporate finance. Jia has a master’s degree in geographic information systems and works as Director of GIS for a solar renewables company. We both share in our passion of learning and plan to obtain our doctoral degrees as part of our bucket lists someday in the future.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a spacious, three-story, three-bedroom, three-bathroom home that has an entertainment/movie room where we host movie nights with friends and family. We built our home in 2020 in a neighborhood located in a premier school district and run by a Metropolitan District Council that hosts farmers markets, concerts, and fairs for the community to enjoy. We have a seven-year-old tabby cat named Bubbas that behaves more like a dog. Bubbas is motivated by treats and enjoys walks around the neighborhood in his harness and leash. Although Bubbas is busy basking in the sun for most of the day, he also enjoys lap breaks, where he loves to be pet and spend time with family.

Our Extended Family

Jia has one older brother, who lives in California. He is in an intercultural marriage, and together, they have one child (five years old). We visit them at least twice every year and enjoy playing card games together in addition to going out to try new restaurants. Each year, we also get together during Thanksgiving with our parents to have a shared meal with Jia’s side of the family.

Mike has three sisters, who live in Michigan (two older and one younger), and we try to see them at least once a year. He also has extended family in Colorado that we see monthly. We are both very close to our mothers and make it a point to speak to them weekly either on FaceTime or on the phone.

What Led Us To Adoption

Our shared dream of becoming fathers and providing unconditional love to a little person was one of the non-negotiables for us when we were planning our lives together before marriage. We believe the best way to make the world a better place is to do so with love, empathy, and kindness and to instill that into the next generation. We believe love is an intentional choice one makes to accept another person where they are in life and to remain in that person’s life without judgment, to provide support, and to experience life together. We want to love a child and help to mold a person who is good and will appreciate and relish life for all that it is.
