dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We understand this is a very important (and difficult) decision in your life. We are excited you are considering us, and we assure you we both have the same goal: to raise this child with the best tools, a lot of love, and a warm home so they can bring the very best of themselves into the world every day.

Growing up, we both helped raise our siblings and babysat our neighbors. We are excited to support your baby in growing up healthy in a warm and loving home, getting a great education so they can grow and prosper, and one day becoming a successful adult in their own right. Our greatest dream is to help our children grow as great or better than the lives we’ve been so fortunate to have.

We are so thankful you are considering us with this very big decision. You clearly are looking into what would be the best outcome for you and your child, and we are committed to make that outcome a reality. We are open to supporting you in any way you need, including maintaining a relationship with you and your child through open adoption.

Thank you for considering us. We hope to share more with you about our home and lives in the future!

About Us

We are an LGBT+ couple that is looking to expand our family! We have a warm home with two loving dogs (Addie the boxer mix and Vincent the German pointer) and love to spend time with our sisters and parents on the weekend. Ted is a food scientist who has worked on cereal, gyros, and hummus, while Joey works as a human resources business partner. Our hobbies include food, game nights with friends, travel, visiting botanic gardens and science museums, and exploring the neighborhood with our dogs. We grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and while we each moved around for work after college, we are fortunate to have moved back home to Illinois and to be close to both of our families.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a diverse neighborhood surrounded by trees, with children of every age and ethnicity playing on our block. On any given day, you can see neighbors walking their dogs, playing basketball, or having a pretend tea party! We live a block from a park and within walking distance of the local grade school and high school. Our dogs have loved moving here with us and are happy to have a fenced-in backyard with a garden (and two trees we just planted). They let the neighbors know they’re happy by wagging their tails and coming up for pets. We give them lots of exercise by going on nightly walks where they get to sniff all the other puppies in the area.

Our Extended Family

Joey grew up with two younger sisters and many, many cousins (his mom is one of six children). Most of the family on his mom’s side live in northern Illinois, while his dad’s family lives in North Carolina. Holidays, birthdays, and other family celebrations were common and frequent, and his favorite was the annual Christmas Eve party at Grandma’s house.

Ted grew up with his mom, stepfather and step-sisters. His mom remarried when he was six, and he’s loved his family since the day he met them. Most of his cousins and extended family live on the East Coast, but he makes sure to visit his parents and sisters weekly to let them see how much the puppies have grown. His favorite tradition was the Halloween party his mom threw (she loves Elvira and all things Halloween), where he could expect tasty food, ghoulish decorations, and plenty of laughs for everyone.

What Led Us To Adoption

On our very first date, we discussed our big goals in life: We were both interested in starting a family, and we were excited to raise children to be strong thinkers who are independent, loved, and able to enjoy all of the excitement and challenges the world might offer. We want to give our future children a safe and warm home, a great education, and a protective environment that helps them figure out their personalities, grow up to be contributing members of their community, and achieve their dreams.
