dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

To say we understand what you are going through would not be fair to the emotions you are surely feeling and the difficult decision you face. The bravery you have shown to create an adoption plan for your child is something we will forever be grateful for.

Should you choose us, we make these following promises: We promise to care for your child as if they were our own. We promise to love your child unconditionally. We promise to protect him or her. We promise to give them a happy life full of laughter and joy. We promise to instill a sense of family and kindness in them, and we promise to share with them the story of you—that you were the first person to love them and that your love and generosity created a family.

A million thank yous would never be enough to properly show our appreciation for you. We hope you find peace in this plan for your child and know we will forever love him or her. We will forever be grateful for your gift that will allow us to become a family.

Respectfully,
Joseph and Courtney

About Us

As far as personalities go, Courtney is more of the go-getter, take-charge type, while Joseph is the more laidback one. We both have the great fortune of working from home. Courtney is a grants specialist for a national early education company, and Joseph is an agency support specialist at a real estate tech company. Both of us enjoy traveling and exploring new destinations. A few of our favorites include Disney World, Mexico, and our family lake house in northern Michigan. We are blessed to have a large extended family as well as friends we love spending time with and often host for get-togethers. At these parties, as a former DJ and musician, Joe is often in charge of the music, and Courtney enjoys cooking, baking, and playing hostess. Many of our friends and family have children, and we look forward to including a child of our own in the festivities one day.

Our Home & Pets

We live in the same city in Michigan where Courtney was born and raised and made wonderful memories. Our home is in a quiet neighborhood with other children and friendly neighbors. We have a busy community with a bustling downtown that has frequent festivals and events. A few of our favorites include a holiday lighting celebration, a winter festival, summertime farmers markets, and a fall art festival in our local park, where we often take our goldendoodle, Toby, for walks. Toby is a lovable, fun dog. Living in Michigan, our summers are often filled with weekend trips “up north” to family and friends’ lake houses. Here we enjoy boat rides, beach days, bonfires, and games.

Our Extended Family

We are blessed with an amazing tribe of family and friends. Courtney’s parents have been married for nearly forty years and live nearby. We see them often for celebrations and Sunday night dinners. Joe’s parents have been together for nearly fifty years, and we’re thankful they play an active role in our lives. They split their time between Michigan and Florida, and we see them often.

Joe’s younger sister lives in Washington with her husband and our two nieces, who are five and two years old. We have frequent video calls with them to stay connected and enjoy visits throughout the year. Courtney’s older brother passed away a few years ago and is survived by Courtney’s sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. They are seven and five years old and live in a neighboring town. We get together regularly, and they love hanging out with their Aunt Coco and Uncle Joe.

We also have a large extended family. Courtney has dozens of aunts and uncles and thirty cousins and their children. Family gatherings are frequent and full of laughter. Joe’s family is smaller but still tightly knit, with aunts, uncles, and cousins around the country.

What Led Us To Adoption

We always knew we wanted to have children, and after years of being unable to conceive naturally, we discussed our options with specialists. We reached a point where we had to search our hearts and decide the best path to start our family and bring children into our lives. We made the thoughtful decision to choose adoption because we felt and continue to feel strongly that we can offer a good home, loving family, and positive relationship for both a child and their first family. Adoption has personally touched our lives as Courtney’s cousin was adopted as a young child, and it showed us how love can create a family.
