dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We want to begin by thanking you for taking a moment to learn about us and the family we hope to build. We cannot imagine the strength, courage, and love it takes to consider adoption, and we are deeply humbled by the possibility of being part of your child’s story.

Our names are Justin and Zach, and we live in Washington, D.C., in a bright, welcoming home that we designed to be filled with laughter, learning, and love. From the very beginning of our relationship, we’ve shared a dream of becoming parents. Adoption gives us the opportunity to provide a safe, joyful, and nurturing home while honoring the love and sacrifice that make it possible.

Our lives are full of family traditions, close friends who feel like family, and strong values shaped by adventure, compassion, and curiosity. We both grew up surrounded by people who taught us resilience, humor, and kindness, and we look forward to passing those lessons on. More than anything, we promise that your child will be cherished for who they are, encouraged to explore the world, and surrounded by unwavering love.

With gratitude and hope,
Justin & Zach

Our Lifestyle

Our lifestyle blends structure, adventure, and time with loved ones. During the week, our days are steady and purposeful—Justin works in public service for the U.S. Army, and Zach manages real estate development projects remotely, which gives him flexibility at home. We end most evenings cooking dinner together, catching up on our days, and relaxing or socializing with friends.

Weekends are for connection and fun. We love hosting friends for meals, exploring new restaurants, or taking day trips to nearby parks and trails. We also make time for home projects, sailing, and traveling—whether it’s a weekend getaway or a visit with family.

Generally we live a very active lifestyle. Most of the time you would find us doing some sort of outside activity rather than watching TV. We also strongly believe in family time—sharing meals, reading together, or playing outside—is what truly makes a house a home.

Our Home & Neighborhood

We live in a welcoming, family-friendly home in Washington, D.C., which Zach designed and renovated with family life in mind. Our house has plenty of space, including a room ready for our future child and a large backyard perfect for playtime and gatherings. The neighborhood is diverse, welcoming, and filled with children, parks, and community events. Our neighbors look out for one another, often exchanging friendly check-ins and sharing weekend barbecues. Within walking distance are excellent schools, libraries, and playgrounds where families come together. Zach’s mom will be joining us soon, bringing along her gentle black lab, Poppy, and we’re excited for her to be part of our daily life. It’s a warm, safe place where love and laughter already fill every room.

Our Family & Friends

Our families are the heart of our lives and the greatest support system we could hope for. Justin’s parents, Ray and Elise, live in California and have been married for over 40 years, while Zach’s mom, Melissa, plans to move in with us to be a full-time “stay-at-home grandma.” Together, our families celebrate holidays, share visits across states, and have built genuine friendships with one another—so much so that they get together even when we can’t be there. Justin’s siblings, Sean and Catie, and their children bring joy and laughter into our lives, and we cherish being Uncles. We are also close with Zach’s brother, Alex, who is building his life in Montana. Our friends form an extended family of their own, many with young children who fill our home with energy during cookouts, game nights, and birthday parties. Whether we’re spending time with our nieces and nephews, hosting friends, or traveling to see family, there’s a strong sense of connection and community that surrounds us. We feel incredibly fortunate to have people who will not only support us as parents but also love and embrace our future child as part of their own families, ensuring they grow up surrounded by encouragement, laughter, and unconditional love.

Our Favorite Adventures

Adventure has always been at the heart of our relationship. Whether we’re hiking through national parks, exploring small towns, or renovating our home together, we find joy in discovering new experiences side by side. Some of our favorite memories include sailing trips on the Chesapeake Bay, camping under the stars, and traveling abroad to experience different cultures and cuisines.

We also love the everyday adventures—trying a new recipe, biking through the city, or visiting local festivals with friends. Each experience reminds us that adventure isn’t just about where you go, but who you share it with. We look forward to exploring the world through our future child’s eyes and creating new memories together as a family.
