Our family has a healthy mix of work and play. Kelsey is an organizer and loves to plan activities and get-togethers with friends and family. John is very laid back and makes sure we also spend time snuggling on the couch and watching movies. We goof around a lot together and find that on hard days, this is the best way to keep us all together. Kelsey is a lawyer, and John is in sales. We work hard to manage our schedules to maximize our time together as a family. We play on recreational softball and volleyball teams and always have someone to go with to the fun seasonal activity, whether sledding or a sunflower farm. Our daughter, Elizabeth, is kind and outgoing. Her new sibling will have a lifelong friend in his or her sister.
We live in a metro area in a family-friendly neighborhood. All of the schools our kids will attend are within walking distance, and we are excited for the future morning walks to school. Our house is 100 years old, and we love all of its details and character. It is big enough for us to grow into but cozy enough to keep our family close together. We have one dog, Buehrle, who is almost five years old. He is at the perfect age to play with kids, and he enjoys running and fetching in our spacious backyard. We regularly walk to get ice cream on summer nights and take the wagon into festivals, markets, restaurants, and parks nearby.
We have a great network of friends and family who live nearby, and we have very close relationships with our extended family.
John has a large family with three brothers, who all have growing families of their own, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom we see regularly. One of John’s brothers lives in the area with his family, and the rest of the family is just a short drive away. Holidays and parties with John’s family are lively, and there are always numerous cousins running around and playing together.
Kelsey has a tight-knit family, especially after the recent passing of her father. Her sister lives close by, and her mother lives just a drive away. We often spend holidays with Kelsey’s extended family as well, often at the family cabin.
We spend a lot of time in the northern lake country at our family’s cabins. Up north, we love to swim, pontoon, fish, and spend time in the fresh air.
Ever since we started talking about starting a family, we thought adoption might be part of that story. Kelsey had complications with Elizabeth’s birth that made it so she can no longer carry children. At that moment, it felt like life had made the choice for us: Adoption would be next! We dream about having a big family, a full home, and children who can walk through life together.
