Early in our relationship, we knew having a child would be the next step in our journey as a family. We want to share our traditions, our knowledge, and our lives with your child. We met in the summer of 2013. Our tastes in music are quite similar, so we talked about different bands we like, and how we both enjoy music. As our conversation continued, we discovered a number of common interests, including, art, travel, philanthropy, exotic foods, cooking, and rock climbing. When we met, we knew we had a special bond as a couple. Within a few months, our travels brought us to Ohio to meet Kevin’s family, and through calls, we met John’s family in Georgia. When we aren’t enjoying our hobbies, John works as a cyber security analyst, while Kevin works as a licensed funeral director. We love to make each other laugh, share new experiences, and care for each other.
Located in a quiet cul de sac, our house has a fenced-in backyard and a small garden where we play with our little dog named Bingo, grill, and relax with a good book. Our big window is where we watch the squirrels, deer, foxes, and birds. Our neighborhood’s schools are only two miles away from home. These schools are very diverse, with families from many backgrounds, and are ranked among the best schools in the nation. We are also a short drive from some of the best museums for seeing everything from dinosaur exhibits to movie props and costumes. We are also close to theaters for seeing plays and music performances and many historic and cultural institutions.
Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, Kevin’s childhood years were filled with family traditions. The biggest traditions were shared at the dinner table, where the family would discuss books, movies, sports, school, and art. They would travel each spring, summer, and fall to a different spot across the United States and participate in the local cultures. During the winter, they would see the local orchestra perform and spend time together. John grew up in rural Georgia with grandparents who taught him how to grow fresh foods and to love nature.
We spend time with both of our families throughout the year. As a couple, we love to travel, go for walks and hikes in the parks, volunteer with a local food pantry, and take part in other community-uniting events. But our favorite tradition is hosting our friends and family for meals. We love seeing our nieces and nephews. We look forward to continuing to share these childhood traditions and fun family activities.
To us, family is not only by blood but also includes our chosen family of friends, neighbors, and community. We loved seeing our peers expand their families, and we knew from our early conversations that we wanted to raise a child with one another. Together we researched the ways our family could expand, and adoption is the best method for us. We would love to share our hopes and dreams as a family with you as well as hear your hopes and dreams.
