Family Type: Gay Couple
State We live in: Georgia

dear expectant mother

Thank you for considering adoption and working toward a plan that makes the most of your life and circumstance. We both know this must be a very difficult decision for you and want you to know we empathize with that challenge. Hopefully getting to know us will allow you some measure of comfort. Compassion is often a many-way street, and the rewards can be abundant for all parties involved. While life always comes with struggle, our goal is to be a part of the process to alleviate some of that suffering. We are of course excited but also scared. We are open to whatever adoption may look like and to a diverse interpretation to what it means to have that family. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing more details about one another’s lives and circumstances.

We hope to provide your baby with a supportive home and have thought long and hard about how to supply a child with all of their needs—most importantly unconditional love. We will do all we can to provide a nurturing and educational environment that will allow your child to flourish and become their own unique self. We want to have a child who has the opportunity and safety to learn and explore their own rich inner tapestry. Your child will grow up knowing they were loved and wanted and that their birthmother made a selfless decision for their future.

Again, we appreciate you considering us as a part of your adoption plan and hope to talk further.

About Us

Our names are Rickey and Kyle, and we are excited to adopt. We made a promise to one another to start the process of adopting a child after finishing medical school and settling into our careers. We are ready! We met during medical school and quickly fell in love with each other’s stories and perspectives on life. Rickey is the eminent scientist and enjoys the technical aspects of his career in the laboratory. He also has an artistic side. He has been known to paint and enjoys art history. Kyle is the counterbalance and ended up using his medical degree to become a psychiatrist; he likes to talk with people and help in their struggles. He enjoys history and exploring the places he learns about in books. On a regular day, we love to cook for one another, share around the kitchen table, and finish the night with a TV show. We love to travel to exotic places, hike, garden, and explore Atlanta on the weekends.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a diverse and family-friendly suburb in Georgia. The public schools in our county are some of the best in the country. Kids from diverse backgrounds play in the quaint suburban streets and enjoy the rich natural attractions. We have a large home with a lot of extra space and at least a little family already: two dogs and a cat. We have a friendly, old rat terrier named Apollo; a lively, ball-crazy Yorkie named Athena; and a shy black cat named Persephone who has her own finished basement apartment. They love the large, gated yard with the garden filled with deer, rabbits, birds, and squirrels.

Our Extended Family

We both enjoy our small, close-knit families. Most of Rickey’s family lives in Kansas, and he mainly talks with his mother and stepfather. He has two sisters and several nieces and nephews, many of whom he helped raise. His family finds strength in church, and they share many religious traditions together. Rickey enjoys going back to see his family three times a year, and his parents try to visit Georgia at least once a year.

Kyle is close to his parents in Georgia and his brother in North Carolina. We have adopted many of the holiday traditions and particularly love Christmas with Kyle’s family. We deck the halls and enjoy a traditional dinner and opening of presents. We also enjoy each other’s birthdays and holidays together, often sharing time by the pool, grilling, and sharing family stories.

We both have a number of friends whom we love to travel with, and many of them now have families of their own. We are excited to start new traditions in the future.

What Led Us To Adoption

Since the day we met, we always knew raising a child was in our cards. Raising a child means we can share our many blessings and foster kindness and compassion. We considered surrogacy and fostering, but our friends who adopted convinced us adoption was the way to go. They speak of how meaningful the process has been. Not only could we raise the child we dreamed of but we could potentially help someone in the process.
