dear expectant mother

Thank you so much for considering adoption and hopefully considering making our dream of becoming parents come true. We are so excited to take this next step in building our family, and we couldn’t do it without a brave and selfless mother like you. We know this may have been a very hard decision for you to make, for you to place your baby with people you have never met, but we want to tell you it would mean the world to us and that we don’t take this responsibility lightly.

The adoption process, for those that choose it, is a long one, full of many steps. All of these steps have offered us a new moment to reflect on why we are taking this journey. We aren’t able to have children on our own. We’ve come close, but it wasn’t meant to be in that way. But we still have an amazing family we can’t wait to welcome someone new into.

We really can’t express what an amazing gift you’d be giving us. The times we live in feel so uncertain that anytime we witness an act born out of generosity of spirit and compassion for others, it feels really important to say thank you. So thank you! Your graciousness and generosity are so appreciated.

About Us

We met on a college trip to China, and it was love at first sight. We love traveling and exploring. Our first real home together was in Scotland, where Kyra went for her master’s degree. Kyra now teaches anthropology at a community college and loves teaching people new things. Matt found his way to chocolatiering by accident and adores his profession, adding professional baker to his resume as well. We’re both huge nerds who love to read, both books and comics. We love going to the movies and the zoo. On summer days you’ll find us in the garden, Matt planting vegetables and Kyra tending flowers.

Our Home & Pets

We’re the third generation to live in our family home. We live with our miniature poodle, Rory Doggins, who is 15 years old and loves to cuddle. It’s in a nice suburban neighborhood that’s very close knit. We’re friends with many of the neighbors and know almost all of them. We live one block from an elementary school, so the neighborhood is packed with kids. They’re constantly outside playing, and it seems like there are more every day. The neighborhood has lots of fun things to do, with movie theaters, restaurants, and parks within walking distance. We’re a short train ride from downtown, a short drive from the museum and zoo, and not very far from the Rocky Mountains.

Our Extended Family

Kyra’s family is close knit. She has a sister and a brother, both married; an uncle; a cousin with a family; and her dad. Her sister and brother-in-law live in a semi-detached apartment in the basement. Her uncle lives a block away, and her dad, brother, and sister-in-law all live together about 15 minutes away. Her cousin and his family live in Texas, but they talk as often as they can.

Matt has his mother and step-father, a father and stepmother with two adopted children, a sister and brother-in-law who recently had their first child, three aunts, and four cousins, most of whom have young children. While a couple of the aunts and cousins live out of state, most are not too far away.

Our families integrated super well. Since we live in a large, centrally located house, we end up hosting all the family gatherings. People from both sides of the family come over for major holidays, birthdays, and family dinners. Kyra’s sister loves cooking for big groups, so we’re always well fed. Matt’s mom and Kyra’s dad stop by often to catch up, have lunch, or go on walks with the dog.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always wanted to have children. Once we graduated from college and got married, that was always part of the plan. Eventually we were able to settle into a nice house, our careers were progressing well, and we were excited to have a baby. We got pregnant quickly and then had a miscarriage. That was a few years ago, and we haven’t been able to get pregnant since. Every month was frustrating and heartbreaking, so we decided our time and energy should be spent growing our family another way, through the beauty of adoption. We are so excited to be here and so excited to become parents!
