dear expectant mother

To you, an expectant mother who is considering us as adoptive parents, we want to say thank you. We recognize this is likely the most difficult decision you will ever make, and we want you to know we are ready to love, nurture, and provide for this gift you are bringing into the world in the best ways we can.

This will be our first child. We’re not expecting it to be easy, but our boots are strapped and we’re ready to take on this next adventure life is bringing to us. We want you to know this child will be loved and adored, and they’ll have a support system at their side from the moment they enter this world. We promise to support every dream this child has and to guide them toward a bright and successful future. They will be loved by not only us but our many family members and close friends.

We have been preparing for this new chapter of our lives for many years, and we are so excited to finally become parents. Through trips to the beach, visits to Disneyland, homecooked meals, and a good education, we plan to nurture and love this child in every way. We are excited to meet you and partake in this journey with you, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering us as adoptive parents.

We have been preparing for this new chapter of our lives for many years, and we are so excited to finally become parents.

About Us

We met over ten years ago while in Hawaii for school, and it’s crazy to think that a chance encounter at a sandwich shop on an island would lead us to sitting here telling you about ourselves. Devin is the calm, laidback kind of guy who is up for anything, while Matt is the more methodical kind. The two of us together seem to create a harmony and balance that works well, which you know is true because we both work from home and still do not drive each other crazy! We are adventurous explorers who love to eat, travel, and experience the world. We like to think when life throws something our way, we’ll take the opportunity to ride the roller coaster that comes with it. We are excited for the opportunity to share this appreciation of the world, cultures, and experience of life with the newest member of our family—and of course weave in a few trips to Disneyland along the way.

Our Home & Pets

Although we call Hawaii home and intend to bring our family back there one day, we’ve learned it isn’t the location that makes the home; it’s the company. We live in Southern California, and our home is warm, cozy, and full of love. Filled with pictures of our loved ones, our favorite places, our favorite moments, and plenty of plants, our home is meant to be peaceful and soothing while making everyone feel welcome. The surrounding area is full of life and activity with restaurants, parks, beaches, and mountains, but at the same time, it is quiet, peaceful, and safe. We have two small dogs (Rover and Kai; both have a bit of gray in the face now), and they have been our companions throughout our adventures together.

Our Extended Family

We are both very fortunate to have been raised in tight-knit families. Devin is the youngest of four children, and we continue to create memorable experiences with his siblings and parents as often as possible. Between his two sisters, Devin has eight nieces and nephews, all of whom are spoiled by their grandparents. Devin’s older brother has been his best friend since birth and has always been supportive of his dreams and goals. Each year, Devin’s family coordinates to spend either Thanksgiving or Christmas together, ensuring the whole family can be together at least once a year.

Matt is an only child, which has resulted in an unbreakable relationship between him and his mother. Throughout his life, they have cared for each other and made efforts to maintain each other’s happiness. Matt has uncles, aunts, and cousins in California and Washington, so we’ve been fortunate to spend time with them since moving to California.

Both of our families have a strong sense of humor and enjoy spending time together, so holidays are filled with jokes, love, and thoughtful moments. We are excited for our future children to grow with their cousins and share in family traditions, trips to the beach, and memorable vacations.

What Led Us To Adoption

Being a gay family, we always knew we’d have to work and plan to get ourselves in a position to take the next steps toward adopting. Throughout this process, we have been fortunate to arrive at a position where we could take the next steps to starting a family. That’s not to say it hasn’t been a slow process for us—almost eight years since we first began talking about it—but we believe patience is one of the first lessons we had to learn when wanting to become parents. We are so lucky to be in a position where we can be the recipient of someone’s gift and make a wonderful life for a little human, and we want you to know this gift will forever be cherished.
