dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We know considering adoption for your child is not an easy choice, but it demonstrates your unconditional love, strength, and courage. We are thankful you are considering us, and we commit to being respectful and caring throughout the process and beyond. We hope to demonstrate to you that the love we share with each other will multiply and flow directly to your child while we provide a safe, loving, and supportive environment for him or her to flourish.

We promise to give your baby every opportunity for happiness and success while teaching them gratitude, honesty, and respect for all people. We will help them explore their dreams and master their talents to their fullest ability. As they grow, we will share our passion for family, friends, travel, and lifelong learning. We cannot wait to see the joy on their face on Christmas mornings, to experience their wonder in the beauty of nature, and to show our love for them every day as they grow to be their own person.

They will know unconditional love. They will know this first from you and your decision and then our commitment to you and them and the love and support of our extended families. We are grateful you are considering us to be loving parents, and we will never forget you changed our lives forever in the most beautiful way.

We promise to give your baby every opportunity for happiness and success while teaching our values of gratitude, honesty, and respect for all people in the world.

About Us

We met in 2001 after graduating from college. As we got to know each other, we soon fell in love. Two years later, we moved to Japan together for work and lived outside of Tokyo. We developed lifelong friendships there and cemented our relationship while navigating a new culture together. We then moved to Southern California, where Matt taught special education with Teach for America and then became a CPA. Scott developed new products in the gardening industry. We built our house and adopted two dogs, and our pack was formed. After exchanging rings and promising to love each other forever in 2005, we were officially married in 2014. Our relationship spans several countries and states and nearly twenty years. In 2015 work opportunities and the desire to be closer to our families brought us back to the Midwest, where we are both from.

Our Home & Pets

We live on a quiet suburban street along a river in Illinois. Surrounded by trees and parks, there are exceptional schools within walking distance. Our home has four bedrooms, a front porch where we read books, a finished basement with a game room to play in, and a large backyard and patio for outdoor fun in the summer. You’ll often find Matt working in the garage and Scott in the garden growing tomatoes to turn into salsa. There are many young families in our neighborhood, and we are lucky to live within an hour of our extended family; everyone is excited to share in our adoption journey. Our dogs, Nishi and Wrigley, love children and are always excited to play.

Our Extended Family

We both have large extended families who are excited for us to adopt, including Scott’s two brothers and Matt’s two sisters and two brothers. Our parents’ greatest joys center around being grandparents and supporting each family with unconditional love, spoiling their grandchildren, and providing the advice and understanding all families need.

We love our role as uncles and host our nieces and nephews for sleepovers, trips to museums, and sightseeing in the city. As part of each visit, we cook together, and everyone picks their favorite food. Scott heads up video games, Matt builds the Legos, and we all come together after dinner for board games or dominoes. We can’t wait to have our children join in the fun.

Each year we host the family Thanksgiving and then head north to Wisconsin for Christmas. We also visit California twice a year to see our friends who have become our family. Each summer we drive to northern Wisconsin and relax on Lake Michigan. We are so excited to bring our children here to fish, build campfires, and have fun on the lake.

What Led Us To Adoption

Throughout our life together, we’ve often discussed adopting children since we have enjoyed being uncles to our nieces and nephews and godfathers to our godsons. We are ready for the next step and desire to be parents to share our hopes, dreams, and love as a family. Three of our nieces and nephews have become part of our extended family through adoption, and we cannot wait to share our home with our future children. We want to help shape a child’s life through empathy and understanding, teach them that the values of love and kindness endure beyond any challenge life can bring, and show them how they can positively impact the world.
