dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Welcome to our profile and a glimpse into our lives. We are writing this letter to you with both nervousness and excitement in our hearts. We imagine you must be feeling a mix of emotions while reading this too. First, we want to say thank you so very much for taking the time to read our letter. The decision you are making right now is both incredibly difficult and incredibly brave, and we respect how hard this must be for you.

We want to make sure you know it is our dream to raise a child together, and we will be eternally grateful to you for making this dream become a reality. If you are looking for a couple who wants to raise your child with the values of kindness, responsibility, and empathy, then we may be a good fit. If you want your child raised with a couple who loves humor, poetry, motorcycles, art, and Legos, then we may be an even better fit. We want to share our world with your child, but we also want to help them explore their own interests. We want your child to learn about who they are as they grow in our family but also who they are as they grow as an individual. We want to uphold your families’ roots and traditions as much as possible.

We will consider every single day with your child a gift, and we hope to honor that gift by creating a space where your child has the opportunity to be the best they can be. We wish you luck and strength in your journey even if it does not lead you to us (but we hope it does).

Sincerely,
Meghan and Baria

The decision you are making right now is both incredibly difficult and incredibly brave, and we respect how hard this must be for you.

About Us

We are dreamers. We are lovers. We are creators. Although we are not perfect, we try our best to live wholeheartedly every day. We grew up half a world apart, with Meghan from a small town in Colorado and Baria from Syria. We met through a mutual friend five and a half years ago and have been inseparable ever since. We became engaged in 2022! Baria is an engineering design supervisor, and Meghan has devoted her life to social work (focusing on at-risk youth and their families). We enjoy spending our free time together, whether it’s completing a house project, kayaking at a nearby lake, hosting a game night with friends, or cuddling up to watch Netflix.

Our Home & Pets

We live in colorful Colorado, and our home is located in a friendly neighborhood where children freely play outside. Our immediate neighbors are very kind and welcoming. We have a large backyard and garden where we grow our own vegetables (zucchini, tomatoes, and bell peppers, oh my!). We live in an above-average school district. We are about an hour drive from the mountains, which means we can take day trips for hiking, camping, and winter sports, and we live about ten minutes away from a stretch of scrumptious local restaurants. Our family already includes one amazing and loving, medium-sized rescue dog (Simba) and a small bird (Aleister).

Our Extended Family

We have extended family in Colorado, Florida, Maine, and Canada. Our families are very supportive and excited about the prospect of us adopting. We take turns with our Colorado family visiting each other every few months or more. We try to see our long-distance relatives at least once a year. We’d say that food is a big part of both of our families, and there are large meals cooked or restaurant dinners (or both) when we visit with them. We try to alternate holidays as much as possible and love to be with family and/or friends. Being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, we also have friends who have become like family members.

We like to have game nights with friends, have an annual pumpkin carving party every year, and enjoy celebrating birthdays and big life events. We celebrate Christmas and open one gift on Christmas Eve, and we also always make sure to have full Christmas stockings. We make a special apple bacon stuffing every year on Thanksgiving. It’s also important for us to sit with our friends and family during hard times and to lean on them when we need support.

What Led Us To Adoption

We feel that although we are complete as a couple, having a child will enrich our lives. After many heartfelt discussions about having children, we decided adoption was right for us. Being able to participate in parenthood and helping your baby grow and experience the world would be a lifechanging miracle for us.
