Natalie & Starla

Family Type: Lesbian Couple
State we live in: Kansas

dear expectant mother

We haven’t met, we don’t know each other, and we don’t know who you’ll give birth to or what they’ll be like. We share something already though. We want them to be safe, secure, and loved unconditionally. Thank you for considering us in this part of your journey. We hope you are safe and supported, wherever you are.

Many of these letters will assure you there will be love and laughter, family photos and holiday cookies, sport events and school plays, and giggles and adventures to be shared in their future. Well, our family can definitely guarantee all of that as we are very good at having fun, being supportive, and enjoying life to the fullest. But what we want you to know is that sometimes there will be bad moods, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and even some tears and tantrums. So we want to assure you that no matter how much of any of those things are in their future, they will know we love and want them unconditionally.

Whoever it is that you bring into the world, we will love them for who they are and just as they are. They will be part of a family that loves them and wants to help them pursue what makes them happy.

Whoever it is that you bring into the world, we will love them for who they are and just as they are. They will be part of a family that loves them and wants to help them pursue what makes them happy.

About Us

We met in 2014 and married in 2016. Both professionals in our fields, Starla is a production supervisor, and Natalie is a director of operations. Our shared hobbies include woodworking, riding Starla’s motorcycle, hiking, playing with our dogs, watching TV, cooking, and making improvements to our house. Starla loves anything outdoors, whether she’s playing in her softball league, golfing, shooting hoops, gardening, or disc golfing. Natalie can be found reading, playing violin and guitar, tinkering with her 3D printer, or working on her art. We are always seeking out things to do together or with our family whenever we can, whether it’s traveling, shopping, attending our niece or nephew’s sport events, or concerts. We have been seeking to grow our family ever since we met. We began our journey as foster parents in 2019 with a genuine desire to share our love, support, acceptance, and stability with children.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is only a block away from an elementary school with a playground and two blocks away from the high school. Our town has a community pool with waterslides and a parks and rec that includes a golf course, soccer, and many other sports leagues as well as frequent family-oriented events. Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, our house is at the perfect spot for riding bikes and shooting hoops and is also adjacent to a big open field where we ride our four-wheelers and play soccer and football. The neighbors are friendly, with many families, who have children of all ages. Our backyard is fenced in where we play with our three dogs and grill out on our deck. Starla’s younger brother lives nearby with his daughter and son, who often hang out at our home.

Our Extended Family

Starla’s mother lives with us in our home, and her father and his wife live a short drive away. She has one younger brother, a niece, and a nephew, and they live nearby. Her grandparents have now passed, but her aunts and uncles and four cousins are in Nebraska and Colorado.

Natalie’s parents are a short drive away. She has one older sister and two nephews who live a few hours away. Her only living grandmother, most of her aunts and uncles, and twelve cousins all live nearby, with the exception of a few who are in Colorado, Ohio, and even one in Australia.

We enjoy attending events and occasions where we can see any of our extended family and actively share our lives with them. We reserve weekends, holidays, and time off of work for enjoying our hobbies, taking trips, attending the sports events Starla and our family participate in, and spending time together. We often gather for the major holidays at our home with our immediate family in attendance for a meal together.

What Led Us To Adoption

For us, adoption is the first choice, not an alternative, for growing our family. We have always felt compelled to adopt. Starla's mother is one of four siblings, all of whom were adopted. Much like her grandparents, we feel our family has so much love for one another and so much love to share that we want to welcome a child into our family regardless of how they come to our home. We have discussed this addition with our family for years now and will seek any resource necessary to meet the needs of children and welcome them just as they are into our lives as wholly as possible.
