About Us

We are Russel and Priya. We got married in 2012 and have a biological son, Raynan, aka Leo, who is soon going to turn six. We are a close-knit family, and we enjoy exploring new places together. We love to hike and bike and enjoy being in nature. We met as colleagues and were friends for over five years before we realized we really liked each other and wanted to share our lives together. We are both in stable IT careers and turn to each other for counsel and conversation about our personal and professional lives. We enjoy unwinding together in our backyard every evening, sharing the day’s happenings, talking, and laughing. Leo says that this is his second-best time of the day, the best being the storytime we do with him every night before he goes to sleep.

Our Home

We live in the bright, sunny East Bay of California with proximity to vineyards, farms, and beaches. This community has a long and storied history in agriculture and farming. Our beautiful city is filled with trees, parks, well-planned communities, preserved farmland, and shopping hubs. In the late spring and summer months, area farms are brimming with agri-tourists seeking fruits, corn, veggies, and cherries. The public schools in our city are highly rated with umpteen options for sports, music, and extracurriculars.

Our Extended Family

Our parents and most of our extended family reside in India. As our parents are aging, we try to make yearly trips to India to visit them and have Leo spend time with his grandparents so he gets to know his roots. Russel has an older brother and a younger sister, both of whom are medical professionals and reside in India near his parents. Russel’s brother has a son and a daughter, and his sister has two daughters. We keep in touch with them through weekly video calls, when the kids get to talk with each other and bond.

Priya has an older sister who lives in Michigan, and they are close. She has a daughter and is expecting her second child, a boy, soon. We try to meet as often as we can by visiting each other or taking family vacations together. It feels wonderful seeing our children grow and bond together. There is also Russel’s cousin who lives close by, and our families get together often.

We believe in traditions that bring everyone together. Birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, summer vacations, Diwali, and Christmas are highpoints of the year, and we try to get together and spend time celebrating together.

What Led Us To Adoption

The idea of adoption had an early resonance with us. When Priya was 22, she witnessed her cousin’s family adopt a baby girl; this is when the seed of adoption took root in her mind. We discussed the concept of adoption early on in our relationship and we agreed to pursue it when the time is right. We had our first-born Leo in 2015 and were excited to start our journey of parenthood. Today Leo is almost six, and we feel settled with our home, careers and parenting experience. We feel the time is right to turn our dream into reality and welcome our second baby into our lives through the gift of adoption.
