dear expectant mother

Dear Birth Parent,

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I cannot fully imagine how difficult this decision must be for you nor the emotions you must be feeling, but I know it comes from a place of deep love and courage. Please know that I have the utmost respect for you and the path that has brought you here.

Becoming a parent has always been my dream. Watching my brother’s journey through adoption with my niece has only deepened my appreciation for the beauty of adoption and the love it creates. If you choose me, I promise to raise your child with honesty, respect, and unconditional love. They will always know they are cherished, not only by me, but by my large extended family and circle of friends. I will encourage them to explore their passions, celebrate their individuality, and grow into the person they are meant to be.

Most importantly, I promise to honor and respect their story, including you, their first family. I will share their adoption story openly, always speaking of you with gratitude and love, so they know the courage and care that led to their adoption.

I will be honored and forever grateful if you choose me to parent your child. With all your
upcoming decisions, I wish you peace, comfort, and strength in this journey.

With gratitude and respect,
Richeal

My Lifestyle

I work as a high school counselor and truly love what I do. Each day, I support students in their emotional, social, and academic growth. I'm an active person and work out 3–5 times a week, whether it’s going to the gym, walking outside, or practicing Pilates or yoga. I enjoy being outdoors hiking, biking, or walking my dog and I also love spending time with others. I’m naturally social and have a close-knit group of friends who feel like family. From backyard BBQs and game nights to spontaneous coffee meetups, community is a big part of my life. Working in a school allows me time off during holidays and five weeks in the summer, which I use to travel whether it’s visiting my brother going to the beach, mountains, or someplace abroad.

My Home & Neighborhood

I live in my childhood home with my parents and my dog, Auggie, in a suburban community in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The house has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and a finished basement with a bedroom and full bath. The fenced-in backyard features a pool and space to play.

The neighborhood is diverse, affluent, and family-friendly, with trails for walking and biking, plus nearby playgrounds, tennis courts, and basketball courts. We are part of a great diverse school district, one of the top in the area. I feel fortunate to live in a safe, enriching environment that offers both strong community values and access to a wide range of opportunities for children.

My Family & Friends

My retired parents lead an active lifestyle. They visit my brother in Dallas, spend time in Florida, and annual trips abroad, including to my mom’s hometown Lima, Peru. At home, they stay busy with house projects. My mom enjoys dance classes and card-making, while my dad loves bowling and playing horseshoes. My brother, who lives in Dallas with his wife and children, including an adopted daughter and two younger sons. We talk often, visit regularly, and enjoy hikes, local events, and family trips.

Many aunts, uncles, and cousins live nearby, and we gather on weekends, for holidays, birthdays, and more. One of my closest relationships is with my cousin’s wife, who’s like a sister to me. I’m godmother to two of her children, and we spend time together regularly.

I’ve been blessed with lifelong friendships, especially with my best friends I’ve known since childhood. I’m “Titi” to their kids, and we’re always celebrating, traveling, or simply enjoying each other’s company. I’ve built strong connections with newer friends, and we see each other regularly.

My family and friends are an incredibly loving, supportive community that is fully behind my decision to adopt and eager to welcome a new child with open hearts.

My Cultural Heritage

I have a rich and diverse cultural background, influenced by both my Peruvian heritage and American upbringing in Northern Virginia. Raised amidst family and friends from across the Americas, with extended family in Puerto Rico and Canada, my home was filled with the sounds of salsa and merengue, the aroma of Peruvian dishes, and the joy of traditional American activities like baseball games, hiking, and holidays. These experiences have instilled in me a deep appreciation for culture, family, and meaningful connections, which remain central to my life. To foster a similar sense of cultural identity and pride in my future child, I plan to actively learn about their culture, incorporate new traditions, and encourage open dialogue about cultural identity, much like my own upbringing.
