dear expectant mother

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our profile. We’re humbled by your willingness to bless a waiting family with your gift of love. In our partnership that consists of a lifelong educator and someone who has worked years in serving children all over the world through international development work, we are excited by the potential of being entrusted with your baby, and you can rest assured we will be by your side through this journey. Your baby will be surrounded by two doting dads who know and cherish the value of unconditional love.

We can hardly wait to meet and develop a relationship to whatever depth you’re comfortable with. We will be your child’s champion and ensure they have every advantage and opportunity life can bring, whether those opportunities are educational or enrichment, and we look forward to introducing them to different cultures as we continue to travel all over the world.

There are no words to express our gratitude for you considering us to parent your baby. As you continue to work through your decision process, we want to thank you for considering bestowing upon us the title of “Dad.”

About Us

Our adventure began in 2017. We’ve lived, loved, and laughed across 14 states, six countries, and four continents! Our shared passion for family, community, and international travel makes our relationship strong. We look forward to having a child or two help us write the remaining chapters on this adventure called life. Robert grew up in a close-knit family in Michigan and went to college in Missouri. He taught first grade before becoming an assistant principal at 24! Eventually, Robert broadened his impact on students as a leader in a foundation that helps schools address educational inequities. Jay grew up in rural Texas on a farm that’s been in his family almost 100 years. After high school, Jay joined the Air Force. Jay served in Africa, where he discovered his calling for development and humanitarian work. After the military, Jay became a diplomat supporting development and humanitarian projects all over the world.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a 115-year-old historic row home that we share with our nine-year-old chocolate lab, Kona. The center of our spacious home is the large kitchen we designed, and most evenings we can be found cooking dinner or entertaining friends. We used the time at home during the pandemic to make our backyard an oasis by adding a deck, new fencing, and a small vegetable garden. We have great relationships with our neighbors, whom we frequently chat with in our backyards or on the front porch in the afternoons. Our neighborhood is family friendly, with lots to do. We can walk to restaurants, a riverfront park, or stop by the city library and historic homes.

Our Extended Family

Our faith and our large family are our bedrock. We were both raised in Christian households with a legacy of service to our communities and to our country. We are a family of educators and school administrators, active duty and military veterans, public servants and clergy. Service is in our DNA.

Large is an understatement when describing our family—Robert has 10 aunts and uncles and Jay has 18! Our families are from two different worlds—Jay’s southern farming roots and Robert’s upbringing in Michigan combine to form a rich family legacy. Our child will be surrounded by love as they experience the diversity of life on our family’s cattle ranch coupled with frequent visits to Michigan. Christmas in Michigan is a huge family affair consisting of four generations of Robert’s family converging on Great Grandma’s house on Christmas eve to celebrate.

And last but not least, our favorite thing to do as a family is travel. When it comes time for our family’s next international diplomatic assignment, our child will experience new cultures and people. We and our entire village of family and friends are excited to begin our next great adventure as a family of three.

What Led Us To Adoption

When we met, our shared interest in starting a family sparked our interest in one another. After much reflection and conversation with our families and loved ones, we decided adoption was the best option for us to pursue. We are at a stage in life where we are ready to grow our family. We have traveled the world, which has taught us empathy and a heightened sense of social awareness we want to share with our child. We hope to lovingly parent a thoughtful, compassionate, and well-rounded human being.
