dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

What a brave decision you are considering. Your strength, honesty, and love for your child do not go unnoticed. We can only imagine the emotions you are going through and are so thankful you are considering us to share our lives with your child. We know in our hearts that we will always be connected and will always think of your selflessness.

We will honor your child's life story and never forget that you were the piece needed to complete our family. We will never say your child will have a better life with us but a different life. Our promise to you is that your child will have a safe and secure home, parents who love each other and them, and the opportunity to grow into the individual they want to be. With two parents who are teachers, education will be an important value your child will cherish. A love for the outdoors will develop through hikes in the woods and kayak trips on rivers and lakes. Your child will bring joy to their new grandparents and find connection with their cousins, two of whom are also adopted.

We have so much more love to give, and your child will be cherished dearly. Thank you for considering us in this selfless gift. We will do everything in our power to continue to make sure we deserve it.

We will honor your child's life story and never forget that you were the piece needed to complete our family.

About Us

Cari is a first grade teacher and is passionate about teaching her students to be curious, kind, and independent. Ryan quit his corporate office job to become a substitute teacher, and he has never regretted his decision! He substitutes for all subjects in elementary and middle school, but subbing as a gym teacher is his favorite. We met online and quickly found common interests in our large families, love of travel, and reading. We were married in 2017 with only our immediate families and closest friends in attendance and honeymooned on a trip to the Rocky Mountains. We love spending time outdoors, either birding, camping, kayaking, or hiking. At home, Cari can be found working on a home improvement project or doing a workout in her home gym. Ryan cooks all the meals and spends his free time running or playing computer games.

Our Home

Our home is a three-bedroom, two-bath farmhouse nestled in an adorable and quiet neighborhood. We are located next to a wonderful bike path that takes us past three schools, numerous ponds, a few neighborhood parks, and a sledding hill. We spend lots of our free time walking, birding, and biking on this trail. We live in one of the state’s top school districts, where we also teach. About a mile down the main road is a large state park and lake we love to explore. We have a cozy backyard where we like to host barbeque parties and roast marshmallows over the firepit.

Our Extended Family

Cari is one of seven kids, including a twin brother who is also a teacher. She grew up playing “mom” with her four younger siblings, always excited to play with them, feed them, and even change their diapers. She feels lucky that as adults, the majority of her family lives nearby, including her mom and grandparents. Christmas Eve has always been the most important holiday in her family. They have a family gift exchange, eat her mom’s delicious homemade cooking, and watch one of their favorite Christmas movies while drinking Nutella hot chocolate.

Ryan comes from an adventurous family with four children. He grew up in a house built by his dad on five wooded acres in nearby rural Ohio, where his parents still live. Travel is a huge part of Ryan’s family culture with camping through Mexico and road trips out west on the family’s converted school bus. One of their most important family traditions is their three-day, costume-wearing, board game-playing, dance-until-four New Year’s Eve bash!

What Led Us To Adoption

We have wanted to be parents since childhood, and building our own family is the top priority in our relationship. After four years of infertility and several early miscarriages, we decided to build our family through adoption. Ryan’s close cousin adopted a little girl who brings so much energy to all of our family gatherings! His brother and sister-in-law adopted their son last fall, and he has been brightening all of our lives with his smile and giggles. We have several family friends with adopted children, and we have seen how much joy and love they bring to their parents, siblings, and extended families. We respect the life story of our future child and are truly grateful for the opportunity to become parents.
