Family Type: Lesbian
State we live in: North Carolina

dear expectant mother

Through our personal experiences working as officers and a teacher and knowing the experiences Katie’s mother went through being adopted, we understand your decision is an emotional journey. We want you to know we will care for and love your child. We thank you for considering us to be a part of your story.

We have talked about our love for sports and theater, and we want your child to be a part of a family that supports teamwork, leadership, communication, positive self-esteem, and respect. No matter what activity your child grows to love, we cannot wait to help them embrace those character traits. Your child will be a part of a diverse and loving family.

When our foster children were living with us, we had a favorite “tradition” where we would ask them, “How much do I love you?” Their response was always “This much” while showing us a circle made by their fingers. We wanted to reassure them they would always be loved by us no matter their circumstances. This is the same love we will have for your child—an unwavering, continuous, and unending love.

Caring for foster children and having them leave us to return to their family was a loss we thought we were prepared for, but this has left a void in our hearts. Without the emotional fear of loss, we would love to have a child we can call our own to nurture, love, and raise through adulthood.

We have so much love to give and want so badly to grow our family.

About Us

We are Savannah and Katie, and we met at work six years ago. Katie serves our community as a police officer, while Savannah left law enforcement to become a special education teacher. We have been in a committed and loving relationship since October of 2014 and have been married almost three years. Throughout our time together, we have come to love the outdoors and playing with our dogs in the backyard. Our time is spent with family and friends, attending sporting events, riding bicycles, running through our local parks, attending church, and traveling to experience new cultures. Katie grew up playing softball, and Savannah grew up playing trumpet and performing in theater arts. Although we aren’t master chefs, we both love cooking and finding new recipes. Our journey to build a family led us to purchase our first home together in June 2018.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home on an acre of land in a small country neighborhood. Our backyard has a large fenced area and a garden. We have three dogs and a cat: a Siberian husky, a retriever, a boxer mix, and a tabby cat. Katie has played softball all her life and would love nothing more than to use our backyard to teach our child to play catch like her father taught her. There are several families with children in our neighborhood who are always playing outside or going for a walk. We live one mile from an elementary school, 10 minutes from a large park, and 20 minutes outside of our local municipality, which is thriving with diversity and activities.

Our Extended Family

Our families are large on both sides, and family means so much to us. We see Savannah’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins at Christmas and Thanksgiving. We see her mother, father, and sister once a week for family meals and enjoy relaxing weekends spent camping. We see Katie’s uncles, aunts, and cousins a few times a year for birthdays and Christmas. Football Sundays are very big for Katie’s family, and we see her mother, father, and brother once a week for great food, great company, and football. We also enjoy weekly meals with them during the summer while we play in their pool.

Our families are over the moon about us adopting a child. They have seen our growth as a family while caring for our foster children and Tristan, and cannot wait for us to have a child of our own to complete our family.

What Led Us To Adoption

When we met, adopting children was one of the first topics we discussed. Katie’s mother was adopted from South Korea, and Savannah knew she was called to adopt when she traveled for a mission trip to care for orphans. We chose the professions we did because of our desires to help young people. We were foster parents for a year and cared for two young boys whom we still see. Our fostering journey developed our parenting skills and taught us how to help children cope with emotions. When they transitioned back to their mother, we gained custody of a family member, Tristan. Tristan has lived with us for one year now and hopefully for many years to come. We have so much love to give and want so badly to grow our family.
